Head is engaged! How soon until baby?

I just had a visit with the midwife today and she told me that the head is way down and engaged, so the baby could come any time! The last time soomeone told me that, I was holding a baby in less than 24 hours (at 38w4d)! I'm kind of hoping the little guy will hold out until Friday

How long after you were told the head is engaged (fixed) did they arrive? I know that for first pregnancies, it can be there for a long time, but I heard it can be sooner for pregnancy #2 or more.

I'm getting so excited!!

My baby (this is #2 for me) has been engaged for at least 3 weeks now. So low the head can't be felt by palpation. I, too, thought it meant I'd be holding my baby by now.

I'm due the first half of March but saw your post and had to hop in, hope you don't mind! I'm 38w3d today . . . last time I was holding my baby by now. Last time I think baby was engaged for about 2-3 days before I went into labor.

not too encouraging but this is my second and head has been engaged for over four weeks now, and I am 41+ weeks, not a single contraction.

Looks like we're all in the same boat! Except I've been contracting every 5-10 minutes for hours, sometimes days at a time, for about 4-5 weeks. <sigh>
