Anyone heard of Cervicitis or an Inflamed Cervix?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm about 9.5 weeks pregnant and this week has been very eventful. I've had several bleeding scares this last week and was prepared to miscarry yesterday when I decided to go in to the clinic to get a final answer and put my mind to rest. Much to my surprise, we saw the baby and everything was good!

Doctor did an exam and thought the bleeding was coming from my cervix. He said he thought it was cervicitis, which from what I read is probably caused by the bacteria that causes yeast infections (it's also caused by various std's, but I see no way that's possible). I didn't get a chance to ask many questions, it was busy and the dr was out the door in a flash, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever had this happened? I'm a bit concerned there may be a danger to the baby.

It's also quite uncomfortable. Yesterday after waking up to bright red blood, my cervix felt like it was on fire. I also have lots of signs of a yeast infection, burning, itching, as well as lots of lower back pain.

On another note, my husband has been suffering from prostititis since just before I found out I was pregnant, I'm wondering if there could be a connection.

Has anyone ever heard of or dealt with this condition, I'm hoping to find some natural remedies to bring some comfort and rid this infection.

Thanks so much.

Cervicitis means inflammation of the cervix. It can be caused by a variety of factors, most often an infection: yeast, BV, STDs. The same bacteria or virus that is causing your husband's prostititis could also be causing your cervical inflammation. If either of you have a history of herpes that could also be the culprit. An HSV infection can present as prostititis in men and cause cervical excoriation/bleeding in women.

Remember, there is a lot of extra blood flow to the cervix in pregnancy and it can be friable even without an infection present. If you are symptomatic (and it sounds like you are), I would suggest cervical cultures and a work up for BV and yeast. Your husband would benefit from a work up as well if he is symptomatic. Your treatment, natural or pharmacologic, will depend of the source and exactly what it is you are treating.

I hope you feel better soon.
