How long should a mattress last?

I just laid the baby down on dd's bed for a nap and realized the bed is starting to squeak. How long should a bed last? Its pretty old and still firm so I was surprised to hear the squeak. fwiw, it was a considered a top of the line mattress with a lifetime warranty when it was bought..... 25 years ago. The bed has been well cared for, never allowed to jump on it and the most weight thats ever slept on it more then 1 night is about 120lbs. Its been in use about 20 of its 25 years so its gotten a lot of use and its still in good shape save for that squeak I heard.

Whoa, you are lucky...25 years!

My DH and I probably need to purchase a new one ourselves and we've only been married 10 years...

Nope...it's not that....

For some reason, no matter how often we turn them, etc, we end up with sagging, like an outline of our bodies and then it starts hurting our backs...

So, I'm think tempurpic (sp?) you know, a big 'ol piece of foam..

Anyway, are you sure it's your mattress? Sounds like it may be your bed itself...

Its the coils I hear creaking. I can't believe you need a new one already! I bought my queen pre kids so its 8-9 years old and its still in really good shape and it came with a 20 yr warranty so I'm assuming it should last at least that. Its not as firm as it used to be though but my dd's twin (which used to be mine when I was a kid) seems to be in fine shape. She actually has one of those memory foam things on top of it because its to firm for her liking. Maybe becasue we keep covers on them and only use them for sleeping so they only get gentle use?
