Here's how it all went down.
Saturday night I started to time my contractions and about 10:00 p.m. they were about 10 mintues apart. At 4:00 a.m. they had moved down to about 6 minutes apart. Our Doula came to the house to help us labor at home and she arrived about 7 a.m. We labored at home until about 5:00 p.m. and the contracts still were about 6 minutes apart.
Once at the hospital, I was checked and was only at 4cm. They had a walk for a while and come back for a new check in an hour. After the walk we had moved up to a 5. They said we could go back home or stay, up to us. I decided to stay because the drive was already uncomfortable with the contractions and I didn't want to do it 2 more times! We were admitted and labored the same until about 8:00 p.m. when my water broke at that time, we were about a 6 but baby was still at a -3 station.
After my water broke my contractions sped up and were way more intense. They were coming about every 3-5 minutes and were lasting for 1:30-2:00 minutes. I wasn't getting much rest in between. We did this until about 10:00 p.m. and they checked me again and I had moved up to an 8 cm but she was still at a -3. This is the point where I gave up. I was so exhaused and maybe if I knew I would be pushing in two hours I could have made it, but with babe not even in the birth canal...so I asked for the epidural.
I got the epi about 10:30 and it only 1/2 worked. I could still feel about 30 seconds of contractions on my left side only. But, it was bearable and I could breathe through it for the most part. I did this another couple of hours and was checked again at 2:30 a.m. I had made no change. Still 8cm and -3 station. The suggested a c-section. Something was wrong, babe wasn't coming down and I wasn't getting the full pain relief and was totally spent.
I agreed to the C/S. I had done all I felt I could at that point and my main goal was a healthy baby. She was born within the next hour. The doc said that although my pelvis was wide that it didn't appear deep enough for our large (little?) girl to make it through!
I am doing really well and healing well. We are thrilled and she is a totally a Daddy's girl. Link to photos in my signature.
