Leap day...

Thread Starter
is coming.

For those of us near our due dates what are your feelings on this?!?!

I'm kinda mixed. I feel like it is totally not fair to have a leap day birthday...but also kinda special.

I'll be 39 weeks exactly on February 29th...

I have NO interest in having a Leap Day baby. I would like to keep things nice and simple with this little one!!

So, I guess this means I will be going into labor sometime today....

I am 39 weeks tomorrow to, and if baby decides to come I'm ok with that.

DH wants a leap year baby so much...but in all honesty they will not allow us to deliever before 36 weeks.

I'd be ok if the baby came tomorrow, but I can see how when the kid is young he might be confused about it and possiblely get teased over it. So I figure if the little one does decide to come tomorrow that I'll celebrate his bday on the 28th and the 1st. That should make up for no 29th LOL. It would be ironic if the LO came tomorrow because my doula is hosting a class on fertlity awareness and natural family spacing.

I would love it. We would celebrate on the 28th on non leap years and then have really special bdays on leap days. I think it would be so much fun. I've also been in and out of labor since Tuesday so i just want my labor to stick and have this little one!

(Popping in from the Feb DDC) I think it'd be cool! Actually, I told DH, if it's a girl, I want her born on the 29th. If it's a boy, I want him born on March 7th (we're naming him after my Grandpa, and that is his birthday). We'll see if either happens

I am 40 weeks today, and am REALLY hoping for a leap day baby!!!!! we have been hoping that since the very beginning.
I'm kind of torn. It would be neat, but definitely confusing like a PP said. It could definitely happen here, as my midwife thinks I'll go into labor very soon. What will be will be.

I'll be one day short of 40 weeks tomorrow - so no trouble there. I agree with PP about it being kind of hard on a young child... but leap year babies "run in the family" so we were kind of hoping for one. DH's grandfather had a leap year B-Day so that would make it special for him. But, I'm not really making any labor progress so far. I think I'll definitely be over.

I would love it! Really, it isn't very often that kids celebrate their birthday on the exact day, you don't see too many birthday parties on Tuesday afternoons, kwim?

He could choose between wanting to celebrate it on the 28th or the 1st, whichever is more convenient that year. Also, birthdays are to celebrate how many years old you are, not how many times that exact date has passed. I think it would be a really fun birthday to have - every 4 years, it would be extra cool!

Kids get teased for a billion reasons, and if it isn't about their name, it will be about their birthday, or their clothes, or that they live in a yellow house, or have or don't have freckles. THis kid isn't going to have parents who look or behave like everyone else's, so our kids are going to have to get used to rising above teaing and not base their self esteem on schoolyard feedback - for whatever reason.

THe midwife said she wouldn't be surprised if I go today (second pregnancy, head is already engaged and fixed), so tomorrow is a possibility!

I didn't really want her to be born on leap day... but I think it would be kind of fun now! (I'm also just really ready to have her here!)

I'll also be 39 weeks exactly, and I definitely do NOT want a leap day baby. Leap day freaks me out.
I am holding out for Saturday instead. DH thinks that if she was born on Friday Feb 29th, they'd actually register her bday as March 1st. I told him I doubt it. LOL

Doesn't make one bit of difference to me!!

I DO wonder though if that extra day was taken into account when calc'ing the due date! Maybe I'm due the 13th rather than the 14th!!
I'm not "due" until March 27th, and have not had any of my other 4 early, so there's no reason to think I would deliver on Leap day, but as I told my husband, I'd really rather not have a leap day birth or April Fool's Day birth.

But of course the baby will come when he's ready and I'll take him whenever I can!! Sara

I agree...I think it would be a really, really cool birthday, personally! Our due date is tomorrow...we'll see what the little one wants.

A girl in my grade had a leap day birthday and everyone thought it was really cool. She never got teased about it, and I think most people were kind of jealous that her birthday was so special.

Well, when I was in 2nd grade we had a sub who kept telling us she was only 7 years old (because she was born on leap day). I was utterly terrified and leap day still creeps me out!
