ah, rainsmom-I've been meaning to post about him for two days. Did you happen to see the special on the making of his final album? Very, very moving. What's the deal with his illness-I know it was a rare form of lung cancer-I wonder if he was still smoking later in life. I always get freaked hearing about people who get lung cancer that aren't smokers-like Andy Kaufman. In any case-yes, rest in peace Warren.

I saw the special on VH1, could have sworn I saw him smoking on it. I mean , what the heck at that point.......

Just got his newest cd and havent gotten a chance to listen to it, but I really liked the one he put out last year, genius.

He had a real childlike quality about him that I really loved. Even sickly, he still looked impish.......

he will be missed......

David Letterman had some really touching words to say about him, I guess he was a frequent guest and even filled in for Paul a few times.

They showed a clip of him on the show from a year ago, Dave asked him if he knew more about life and death now, and Warren responded with something like "I know to enjoy every sandwich".

ah Warren...

from "Don't Let Us Get Sick" - the wistful last song on the CD "Life'll kill Ya":

"Don't let us get sick, don't let us get old,
Don't let us get stupid, all right?
Just make us be brave and make us play nice
And let us be together tonight."

I liked his sardonic rocker side but I LOVED his sweet side when it showed through.
