Do you use Singapore AND Miquon (or another)?

I've been unschooling my 5 year old but am looking into adding some more structure for next year. He is very mathmatically inclined but isn't a fan of busywork. He often figures things out in his head but will reach for manipulatives if he is stuck. We have a workbook that he sometimes uses but often goes to the pages that have math as a game (i.e. answer the questions, match the number to a letter, and solve the riddle kind of things).

I was thinking of getting Singapore and supplementing with Miquon. Has anyone done this? If so, do you find they match up easily? Does your child go easily from one to the other?

Or, do you use Singapore or Miquon and then supplement with another program for a different perspective?

I'm looking to supplement more for the different perspective than for busywork or practice.

Thanks so much!

We use both. First we went through the orange and the red books of Miquon and when my son wasn't ready to move on to the blue book we started Singapore year one.

We are almost finished with that but I plan to start year two Singapore and work in the sheets from Miquon wherever they pertain to each other.

We use Miquon and Singapore. I think the two together are brilliant. Although I love Miquon, I am very careful who I recomment it to because it is very different and some people don't like it. People either love it or hate it.

My dd does a bit of Singapore everyday and a bit of Miquon everyday. She isn't always working on the same concept at the same time, but it hasn't been a problem.

We use Right Start. A lot of manipulatives and games. Very little seat work.

We love it.

We are a family that does a Miquon-Singapore salad. As momtokea mentioned, Miquon is a little different in a way that parents either love or hate. I love it and my kids have done very well with it. They all started with Miquon Orange and Red, and then after that if they hit a motivational or conceptual roadblock, I've introduced Singapore at that point (at the 2A - 3A level, depending on the kid) to give them a fresh start at something new. Then we've gone back and forth a bit until they either finished the Miquon program or decided they wanted to move over to Singapore totally.

we use both, too. I don't know why so many families have ended up using this combination, but it is perfect for us. I think with miquon, the kids work through the singapore so much faster. my 7 yr old just started the singapore series last July, after having done nothing but Miquon off and on in a very relaxed way since she was 5. She has progressed through Singapore 1a, 1b and 2a in just 7 months. That's 2 1/2 yrs of math in 7 months. She loves the Singapore, she finds it easy and fun. With the Miquon, we just do it when she wants now, sometimes she does the worksheets herself, sometimes she wants help- sometimes she writes the answers, sometimes she just does them with the rods. But the Singapore is her "real school" and she does it every day.

i think they complement eachother- i have heard developmental math complements miquon, too but i haven't tried it.
