athlete's foot

does anyone else live with someone who has athlete's foot? DH has had it for many, many years. He has treated it with a cream for it but I don't think it has ever really gone away. Now we think my 2 1/2 yr old has it. he has a crack and peeled skin between his tiny toe. I went on wikipedia and I think I can try to keep it out of the shower by spraying the shower daily with vinegar and maybe bleach every week or so.

Does anyone else live with someone with athlete's foot and what have you done about it. I'll aso be sure DS only uses his own towel and that I dry his feet well after each shower. We all use the same shower. We have another shower but we don't really use that bathroom because it's out of the way. Is it necessary to take DS to the doctor for this? Seems unnecessary.

We've had good success with daily vinegar and water soaks (1 cup per gallon very warm water, as long as possible), followed by an application of TTO. Be sure he does not wear the same pair of shoes 2 days in a row, and sun them if possible in between wearings. If you can't sun them, you can also spray them with a TTO solution too. Have him change socks several times a day also. TTO, Lysol or bleach the shower after using (keep the shower & bathroom well ventilated to keep excess moisture away), and wash & dry your towels and his socks on HOT or dry in the full sun (a little TTO in the wash will help too). Athletes foot needs warmth and moisture to live, so you need to break that cycle. Try to keep up this routine for 2 weeks after it goes away. And keep rotating his shoes and spraying the shower once daily. That should help keef AF away. HTH

I've had something similar to what you're describing your ds has. The crack and peeling skin. I wasn't sure if it was athlete's foot or not, but I guess so! I know it itches something terrible! I've been applying chickweed salve on it and it seems to be helpful. It's a homemade recipe from some Amish friends of mine, but it has chickweed, burdock, comfrey, plaintain, and unfortunately petroleum in it. Seems to be helping.

I had no idea it was so catchy.....now I'm paranoid about the shower thing!

I read men are much more likely to catch it. I've been married to DS for 13 years and have never had it. Maybe I'm immune by now.

oneotamama- how much TTO are you using in the laundry and other areas?

This may gross some people out, and I can't really say whether or not this works (as I don't have athlete's foot), but I have heard that peeing on your feet in the shower works.

I'm not using any TTO anywhere.....should I be, or are you thinking of someone else??

Regarding the peeing on the feet, I've heard that before too. I recall something from my Scandinavian culture class that they peed on their feet for something, but I don't remember what??

DH has it plus something else and refuses to keep any kind of routine. Something that helped was soaking the feet in strong black tea. Do this everyday for about a week. DH would only do it for 2 days:/ but it did help.

Apple cidar vinegar soaks work for my hubby.

DH had it bad too. Once we cut out 50% of the refined carbs and cut down on coffee it stopped re-occuring. To get rid of it initially we did a TeaTree + Oil of Oregano (just a few drops- its STRONG) and used Jojoba as a carrier oil. After that we threw vinegar in the tub and let it sit all day. He's been funk-foot free for about 4 months.
