I was recently thanking God for Miralax; then I popped onto the yahoo group and now I'm going to have to do some research, darn it!
Anyway, Gabe was stopped up for a week (he's a little hypotonic, and pooping has always been at least a minor issue with him), and on the pedi's advice, I gave him 1 heaping T. of Miralax (oh, Gabe's 51 lb) in the evening. Repeated it at noon the next day, and by midafternoon, we had a clearance sale going on. It wasn't diarrhea by any means, but nice, soft, formed turds. Gabe obviously felt much, much better.
Still going by the pedi's recommendation, we kept him on that dose for 2 weeks, then began gradually decreasing it. Up until we ran out, I was giving Gabriel 1 t. a day, and had done so for about a month. It has really kept him regular, and has taken the fuss and strain out of pooping. The pedi's opinion is that he could stay on this low dose indefinitely, or we could just keep some Miralax on hand and use it as needed.
Yep, gotta go do some research. I love something that works, but I need to stay aware of alternatives, as well as potential risks...
