double pointed needles.

There - I said it.

I'm knitting this beautiful baby cardigan (the free one from Pure & Simple) and as an intermediate knitter, I'm really happy with it.

Enter - THE SLEEVES.

They're awful!

It's all loose, the stitches are super sloppy looking and just, bagging.

I've ripped back a couple of times, tried every pointer I can get for using double pointed needles (they're too small for my circulars) and now I'm feeling like my (1st!) beautiful sweater is ruined.

Commiseration? Advice? Does it get better?

Tried magic looping? I hate DPN's too. I want to learn to magic loop socks!

Yes, please try magic loop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtBSmxGomPk

I'm actually comfortable with DPNs but I really love that I don't have to dig them out to do small diameter knitting . . . I can stay with the same needles.

I NEVER would have found that on my own! I can't believe I've never heard of this before - thank you so much! I'm off to drag my knitting over to the computer to try this out. Thank you!

I love magic loop too. Hope the sleeves go better

i'm just not into dpns either. but do love magic looping. way fun! ditto what the pp said about just keeping on with the same needles. i'm actually knitting everything on circs now, regardless of the project. (and SO lovin' my knitpicks wood set!)

You could knit it flat and seam it. I sometimes knit sleeves in the round when they are supposed to be flat (I love dpns) and depending on the pattern I don't see why you couldn't go the other way.

I hate them too. I had to use some for the legs of my Sheepy Pants, and the very next day I went to the craft store to try to buy some 12" circs in the right size. They didn't have any I'll have to get them online when I can afford to.

The day after I used them, my hands were sore. The next day, my left hand was so sore that I could barely even hold a knitting needle, much less use one.

I have found that sometimes I still get 'ladders' with the magic loop, but not as bad as the ones I get from double points. What I've really found to love is the 2 circular method.

I used to hate dpn's too, but learned that the trick is to pull the second stitch on each needle _really_ tight. Give it a good firm tug before slipping the stitch off the needle. Since learning this in a class, I can tolerate dpns now, and the knitting comes out looking normal.

Will try magic loop someday too, once I get time to concentrate on a tutorial or take a class to show me how. . .

If you decide you don't like ML for some reason try two circs at once.
