I'm halfway thru season 1. At first I didn't like the characters at all, but now I'm really routing for them! And the sex! Seriously, they have to be really doing it right? It just looks too real. Something about the way they depict it is so true to life. The therapist is great. I feel like I have a lot of insights watching the show. Any thoughts?

I really wanted to like this show, because overall I love almost every HBO show. But it was just so depressing, I couldn't get into it. I wanted to though!

I just watched the season 1 finale last night -awesome! I really love the way the show celebrates couples staying together. I loved what the therapist said when Dave asked her if he could get back the attraction he used to have with Katie and she said 'maybe not, but you'll find something different, something better.' And then they do! I just haven't seen a show that depicts relationships so accurately. Depressing at times, yes, but when they finally have breakthroughs its beautiful and so true to life.

I tried to watch it, but I just couldn't get into it. I also found the intimate scenes really distracting! I mean seriously, how many can they fit into one episode? I felt like a peeping tom or something, lol. I think I'm a prude

the sex just wasn't "sexy", it was kind of gross almost to watch, maybe because it seemed so realistic. i too always wonder- did they really dtd? there was a NYT article about this show when it first came out and they stated that the actors were not actually making love but you couldda fouled me! the show was depressing but seemed to portray relationships in a realistic way. not that one should want to see that always, but I think it is an interesting idea.

I think the sex scenes being uncomfortable was sort of the point. I read an interview where the writer said she wanted to portray intimacy honestly...without hiding (editing) anything. Sex is extremely intimate and when you think about what is actually going on during sex...there are 'gross' or uncomfortable aspects to it. I think the idea was to show it the way it really is - not the Hollywood version that is edited and have makes it seem like a fantasy. The whole intent of the show seems to be this. Anyway, if you do make it to the finale, I think the payoff is well worth it. I've had a few "breakthroughs" with my dh that were so similar to what Katie & Dave experienced. I've never seen anything else on TV or film that so closely represented what I've experienced relationships and intimacy to be. After 9 years of marraige, I find the show refreshing rather than depressing.
