Help! My Klean Kanteen stinks!!

It smells like skunk water. And if I leave water in it too long (over a day) the water tastes simply awful. This has been going on for several months now. I wash it and it seems better, but then it's back. This last time the stench is still there even after washing it. Sometimes I wash it in the soapy dishwater, other times w/vinegar or bs like the bottle suggests.

My kids have SIGG canteens and theirs don't smell at all. Even if they get left in the car for a few days.

I should also mention that typically I only put water in the canteen. On a few instances I have put iced tea in it, but nothing regularly other than water.

Any ideas what I can do?? TIA!

That happens to my DD once in awhile as well. I put it in the dishwater then there isn't anymore smell. Could you try in the dishwasher?

We have a dishwasher even though I usually don't use it. But yes, I could try that. I was always fearful I'd wreck it, but then as it is right now I don't want to use it anyway!

I put mine in there about once a week or so because I'm afraid of the smell coming back again. It doesn't wreak it at all. The logo came off after a couple of times but that didn't matter to me too much. Good luck with it.

We use siggs and although we dont have a problem with them smelling, every so often I like to do a white vinegar soak. One part vinegar to two parts hot water, and let them soak over night. I would think it would work great for any funky odors too. Good luck.

Try putting a little baking soda and hot water in the KK and let it soak for a bit. Then make sure you rinse it out really well afterwards.
