Family Cloth & Napkins?

I want to replace napkins & TP with cloth. We already use kitchen towels for cleaning instead of paper towels, but it would be nice to have something a little nicer then the kitchen "rags." I don't want really fancy, fine linen napkins. What do you use for napkins, and where did you get them? I'm also curious about "family cloth." I would prefer to wipe with soft cloth, rather than TP (DH thinks it's gross.) Plus, even if I'm the only one using it, it would save a ton of money. I could toss them right in the diaper pail that's next to the toilet, and wash with cloth diapers, couldn't I?

Ok...I just thought about it, and replace is a strong word when it comes to family cloth. Napkins, yes, we could completely replace those, but I would still have to keep some TP around for DH and guests.

We use cloth napkins for napkins. Creative, huh?

I got most of mine at thrift stores and garage sales. I also picked up some on clearance at Target after the holidays.

No family cloth here, but sure you could just do the diaper pail.

I tried Target a while back, and all I could find were expensive, fancy embroidered table linens. I asked an employee, and she didn't have a clue (only napkins she knew of were paper.) Maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

I've seen them before in the clearance section of Bed, Bath & Beyond. They were something like $2.00 for a set of 4.

I read the title of this on the main page and all I thought was you want to use your family cloth for napkins!!! LOL!!

I was sure that wasn't what it really was... but for a second it threw me for a loop!

Well, its always best to find multiple uses for items, rather than having all those different items with a single purpose.

I've bought our family wipes from Stork Savers. She is an awesome WAHM, and we like the wipes. For napkins I usually look on ebay for either used or lots. Recently I was able to find them for $3/dozen.

Good Luck!

I have a bunch of white burp cloths/flat diapers that I use daily for napkins or paper towels, and some nice orange napkins that I get out for guests or formal dinners.

I use old rags and microfiber cloths for cleaning everything.

All of those things above are kept in a big wicker basket on top of my dryer.

In my kitchen drawer, I have a stack of dishrags and dishtowels.....

We have flannel rectangles cut up for TP......

And all of it gets washed together. My washer has a sanitize feature, so I am not worried about napkins and TP getting washed together. Let me know if I should be, LOL!

We don't use napkins at all, but my daughter and I do use family cloth for urine. All I did was cut up an old flannel crib sheet into rectangles. The rectangles then need to be edged on a sewing machine, unless you don't mind that they will fray when you wash them.

I do have cute flannel/terry and flannel/velour 8x8 wipes for our LO who we are going to CD. However, for me I think they are to big & thick to use as TP. I think I'd rather just have one layer of flannel. And I would prefer them to be un-dyed natural fabric, so they are easier to sort out of the other laundry. Maybe I can find a good deal on some organic flannel fabric. Then just cut 4x6 or 7" rectangles out of it & zigzag stitch the edges.

I found the Stork Savers website, thank you. I really like her napkins. It looks like regular woven cotton fabric, right?
