Right now we have Medi-Cal ... honestly I would NEVER, not EVER recommend a person choose to go without it. My mother has over $100,000 in medical debt because she was uninsured when they discovered (and began to treat, on an emergency-basis) her brain cancer. I'm about... $10,000 (?? ) in debt now because of outstanding medical debt ~ caused due to a seeming emergency, what they thought was a twisted ovary (and what turned out to be a worsening of my endometriosis). And I hate to think what my daughter's recent emergency 4-day quarantine in the hospital would have ran us had Medi-Cal not been there to cover it. Never, never go without health insurance, because you don't ever know what might come up.

Speaking of which: update on my daughter ~~ all the recent tests point to Celiac Disease... she's going to go see a gastroenterologist for this specifically so they can do the necessary tests.

Now, I'm going to go drool over the Schwan's catalog. (I'm so, so very hungry ... just started a new diet and it's killing me.... : mmm donuts .... : mmm ice cream ... : omg who in the world eats only a half a cup of ice cream at a sitting?!? ......... chocolaaaate : ...)

I'm sorry you both had to go through that!

Whoo-hooo! I just got accepted into a community gardening program! This is SO AWESOME; the garden provides the seeds, mulch, compost water and basic tools so all we have to do is show up and grow the food and we get it basically free. It's in the middle of a nature conservency so DS can run around like a maniac and maybe ride his tricycle while we garden, and the land has been cultivated under strict organic standards for 20+ years so I feel really good about the food we'd grow. I'm planning on tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes, carrots, maybe even brussles sprouts. I'm really super looking forward to this. Plus, it will give us something free and recreational to do as a family in the evenings and on the weekends.

On the other hand, I have a preformance review at work on Friday that I'm freaking out about. I have to talk about my professional goals. I have no idea what they are -- pretty much, to not get downsized until the recession is over and DH is out of school. But I have a feeling that's not exactly a winner in the preformance review department.

good morning mamas!

belleweather....i am so jealous about the plot! i'm waiting to hear back....if not this year. i still have my containers. did the 'walk around' yesterday. i did a horrible job cleaning out in the fall. funny how fallen sungolds can retain their color through a brutal maine winter LOL

good luck on the review.

asianyoushi... sorry it was hard, but at least there is an aapointment to 'look forward to'.....try rescue remedy next time...it may work, and it can't hurt.

aura.....i'm so glad there seems to be an answer close.celiac is tough, but the food is still yummy, so you can work with it. i know for me my dx was a Godsend. avoiding gluten is worth every label read.

as for insurance...i have had public insurance for years. and am so incredibly grateful. but i also live rightdown the road from a 'teaching' hospital...they are required to give care...regardless of ability to pay

i have 5 people picking up freecycle stuff. it doesn't look like it makes a dent in the clutter, but its a start

i just cannot wait until i can hang clothes on the line to dry! inside hanging doesn't cut it

i'm home for the day. not moving a muscle! i WILL get this stuff out the door!

:tried to update in a post and my computer crashed. stupid other forum and it's smilies.:

anyway, trying again. things here have just been a little busy. I'm getting overwhelmed with the kids and life and backing away slowly from my life until it's better. talked a bit with ediesmom yesterday and have come to the conclusion that I need to stay home with my girls and be a wahm. There's a variety of stuff I can do and I don't need that much money(like I could work one day a week at the restaurant to get that money) to make it every month. I need to keep my food stamps a while and my medicaid but as long as I keep those a while, there's no reason for me to not stay home. Hmmmm, think the food stamps worker will cut my money if I'm not working???? I'm going to try to watch one kid during the week once our house situation is settled and then knit for some extra cash. I'm not a great sahm but getting out for a break once a week is a good option for me to find patience. Maybe I'll pay my in-laws to keep the kids so I can work one night a week while Dan is gone. I don't know. but I do know that I just cannot put Grace in daycare at 2 months old. Just cannot.
on a lighter note, I would seriously appreciate some house-getting vibes if you all aren't using them. Found a place yesterday that would be perfect for us to grow into and I think I need to get it. Great school district, park down the street, big place, washer/dryer in the basement. neighborhood is a lot better than it used to be. I'm thinking it's a good investment in my future if I can keep affording to pay that much. It's a bit much for me. but we'll see.

On the health insurance front, I dont know what to do.

I cant go on medicaid, because DH makes too much, which seems pretty insane, but whatever. I am pretty sure DS will qualify for medicaid, but I FINALLY found a doctor who would see him without vaccines, and he is in a different city/county and will only take medicaid for that city. So, I would have to keep him on a private insurance, which means we wont be able to afford any for me.

Insurance is awful. For us it's a choice between having insurance or paying other bills so dh and I don't usually have insurance. I am currently covered by maternity medicaid, but that will end 2 months pp. The kids are covered by medicaid and we would have to make a good deal more for them to not be covered. At this point dh and I are covered by a catastrophic plan through the state. If we have bills past a certain rather low amount in a month the rest get picked up by medicaid. The amount we would need to pay out of pocket varies based on our income. I don't know if other states have a program like that, but it is nice to know it exists in FL.

justmama - Good luck with getting the house.

belleweather - congrats on the garden plot and good luck on the review.

asianyoushi - Sorry the dentist didn't go so well. Did you see a pediatric dentist or a regular one? Our local health dept has a pediatric dentist that is wonderful with kids, but they won't see them until age 4. That dentist is covered by the kid's medicaid, but they are really low cost for children that aren't on medicaid.

Aura_Kitten - I'll send you some of my aversion to all things sweet vibes. There was a commercial for some super frosted caked on during the news this morning and dh was laughing at the face I made. It looked so nauseating to me! Sweets and I just do not get along at all when I'm pg. Now if we could just keep things that way when I'm not pg I'd be doing good lol

We don't have insurance, up until last year we had a crappy high deductible policy but between dh's business taking a dive and losing my job we could not afford the premiums (plus at 30K for the deductible, everything was out of pocket). Sadly in our case, despite losing 60% of our income it was still too high to get state coverage for the kids. So since I have still yet to find a job we will probably get another high deductible policy soon, for now I have found a sliding scale clinic for my needs (basic visit though is $150,ouch) and we pay cash for the kids stuff. Pretty much its s lousy position to be in, too broke to afford anything, too well off : to get any help.

anyone heard of a rental application including your bank acct number????? It also asks all my bills(credit cards, car loans, etc) and how much the standing balance is and what I pay on them monthly. I intentionally DID NOT fill out my acct number and included a note on them that I would provide an acct statement in person with the acct number blacked out if that was required for rental but would not provide the number over the internet(we are emailing the application since the guy didn't have an application on him when I visited even though he knew I was coming to see the place which I thought was weird). Do you think that makes me not very likeable to rent to? I really thought that was out of line to ask for the bank acct number. All they should care about is my income and my credit check. I told them they were welcome to run and background and credit card check but I wouldn't provide my bank acct number over the internet. Bad move?????

not a bad move at all. to me...anyone willing to share that kind of info on just an application is kinda numb. i think it looks 'savvy' (which, of course, you are) to offer to show certain info on safe terms.

really good housing vibes, mama!

Smart to not do it over the internet I think, however I have to say that's really common for subsidized housing here. I emphasize the subsidized housing part because the non-sub. rentals I looked at did NOT ever require that. But the housing I'm in now we need... social security numbers for all members of the household, bank accounts, plus past 6 months of pay stubs AND bank statements, any IRA's or other investments, amount of cash on hand (yeah like I'm going to tell them THAT ), a list of all property held that's worth more than like, $100, employer, name phone number and address of our social worker(s), medical record #s, emergency contact(s), doctor (name / address), pharmacy, child care facility, amount of cash grants (if any), and signed in the blood of your first born child (no, not that last one but practically )...

i am so grumpy!

i set up 5 appointments for people to pick up freecycle stuff.

the guy for the aquarium showed YAY!
the woman for the computer didn't....HAG (she did email after the fact)
the 4 bags of clothes woman didn't bother REALLY BIG HAG...no call/no show
the woman for the toys showed

now, let me remind all that i recently had surgery...i hauled 4 trashbags of clothes up the basement stairs....computer parts up the stairs.....and now i am supposed to haul a frickin chair up the stairs in hopes that the chair lady will follow through.

and i didn't go to the grocery because i was hanging out for these people! and i didn't go to the bank either!

just really disillusioned with people right now. i mean, this is free stuff. don't say you want it if you don't:

Great news! I found a dr that takes DS current insurance, doesnt care about vaccines and takes medicaid. I hope we will be approved for medicaid for ds but I am so scared we wont yet because of my last pay check coming in. I think I will end up riding insurance free, but I am going to look into catastrophe. I dont know who to talk to about that, any ideas?

Tonight was my first night of work at McDonald's. It wasn't as bad as I expected. I totally rock at hustling my ass and customer service. The manager insisted I must have managed at a fast food place before. HA! The night people are pretty cool and easy going.
I think it will be okay for awhile but if I get a better offer I won't hesitate to jump on it with no guilt.

I had to take my dd to the dr today for a note for school. She's been pretty sick for about 3 weeks. Talked to the doc in Seattle and they figured we'd be fine with an in network provider with a referral. Stupid insurance called them and told them they won't cover us out of state. : I'll have to cough up the $75 for the visit now BUT the doc we went was soooo great! Didn't even say a word about the vaccine issue and told me that she'll have fun relearning all the holistic medicine studd with us

Can't write anymore now because my milk is letting down and spraying me and I need to wake up my boy

Just know the USA does not test right for celiac's. It is a simple blood test but most doctors do not do the correct blood step. They only do the first step and then say nope you do not have it. So she could test negative for it but actually have it.
