Question: ** ARE ANY OF YOU MAMAS HERE IN PENNSYLVANIA?? **
If you are and don't want to share your location PLEASE PM me so we can talk, I want to know more about the area + resources and I have no idea where to start...

I can't believe I'm actually considering making this move. :

aura.....the blood test. i was diagnosed with the test (IGg?????gawd, i can't remember) i tested positive, went gf for a few months.....and then, ummmm, tested it! absolutely no doubt about the dx!

the biopsy is invasive and really could be unnecessary.....it IS the most widely recognized means of dxing celiac, but there are other options.

i had to go to dhhs today because my foodstamps didn't come today.....they 'hadn't received my review'! while i was there i found out they had been counting my child support TWICE!...making it look like i was bringing in way more money. so that was fixed which means i will be getting actually MORE of my cs payments. ahhhhhh....

ok, i need a nap! soon

I just wanted to check in. I am doing really well. Taking a love and logic parenting class, that is helping me SOOOO much with the kids. it is amazing how a little twist of words and some choices change the entire day.

I got some good news today. The X called and said that we should get a check from the government in May and we are going to split it. Very cool cause the baby needs a new carseat, and I need to get some mattresses and matress covers for the older kids.

More good news. I got my financial aid award letter today, and we will actually be doing ok I think. I am pretty sure I will have enough to pay for daycare, and I am thinking about getting a part time job in the fall when the baby is about a year old, then the childcare will be subsidized, and the state will help with it for school and work.

Oh, one more piece of good news. Next week are finals in my first quarter. And here are my test scores so far in math:
97
96
107(there was a bonus question)
98
98
and I get one more test back on Monday. I am doing awesome!!

I hope everyone is doing well!!

This is my view point. You test positive with the blood test then you need to be gluten free. all the GI is going to show is if there is damage. Some GI dr. say you do not need to be gluten free until there is damage. UM really that is crazy. Why would you keep on eating gluten just waiting to damage your intestines then spend the next 20 years trying to repair it?

For some reason I hadn't been getting my updates when new stuff was posted but I got one today and wow... I had a lot of catching up to do! Mamoo, congrats on your high test scores!
Justmama, I had to provide a bank account number before, but it was the first apartment I ever rented all on my own so I didn't know better and I was taking the apartment over from my cousin who had taken it over from his friends and the landlord was very nice. I would never have done it over the internet to a stranger, so you made the right call on that one. Can you get TANF so you can stay home? And then WAHM part time to get extra money? I know when I had Daisy I was on foodstamps and they said I could get them up until she was 1 without having to work. Except that I was working at the time but when I left my job I had just had to provide a good reason as to why I quit otherwise they would have discontinued them for quitting a perfectly good job. I told them I had no childcare (I didn't) so that worked.
Another storm today. I was supposed to go to the opening of my aunt's art show at the Dublin Library but my mom just called to say they aren't going because of the storm. I was so looking forward to going! It's hard to find free stuff to do in the winter. I'm not sure if my aunt is going to be there anyway because she's paranoid of driving in the snow so maybe they'll reschedule the opening.
Have a good day mamas!

Morning all, hope everyone's doin' good. Just wanted to pop in and say "hi".

Turns out I am going to need to buy a new(for me) car. The mechanic has finally admitted that he has NO idea what's wrong with my minivan!
So the hunt begins!

Otherwise, it's a quiet Sunday morning.

Hi all

It's official: crap food DOES cost way less than healthy food. I keep not wanting to believe it but uggghhh ... after spending about $190 in the first week and a half of March on healthy food... I finally went back to the hillbilly housewife plan (ignoring for the time being that my daughter might very well have to avoid gluten for the rest of her life and instead focusing on how much money I can spend on food ) ... and I just got like a week's worth of food for $20.

Fourteen packages of Top Ramen? - $2
Cheap-o white bread? - $1
Cheap-o processed cheese? - 1 lb for $2
... and etc. I did however give in and buy my kids the tons of cucumbers and carrots they wanted. But.. I've accepted that I'd rather my kids have full bellies than eat all whole grains and fresh fruits and veggies. Oh well. : This way I also had some $ left over to buy the supplies for my son's science fair project.

Good luck car-hunting cwat. That's a pain in the butt.

Thanks to those of you from PA who responded I still don't know if I'm going to make the move but wow, I don't know if it's an opportunity I want to pass up...

i can share some of my cheaper gf meals if you want. shop asian markets for rice noodle soup....almost as cheap as ramen, and safe for your dd..yummy, too. and the asian markets have non-wheat flours really cheap. its not certified gf, but...

one of our local corner stores is run by a young woman who is very conscious of just about everything......she is allowing our buying club to purchase through her (HUGE discount....) and she accepts food stamps now.... so i can shop the food club with fs!

well.....good morning mamas!

i woke up late so i'm in a hurry...just saying good morning

big hugs to everyone

That is true comparing it just at the face value. I use to buy only cheap food. Shoot for a few years I had a budget of $125.00 a month for a family of 6. I know cheap. Here is what I found out though. The more healthy food we eat, we eat less even though things cost more. It took about two months to have the cost of food calm down. Eating refined sugar and process food makes you crave more refined sugar and process food. We are a family of 7. I spent about $360 a month on food for us. We belong to a CSA which we get all our veggies and fruit from all year. It is all organic. We spend about 40% of our food budget on this alone which is very frightening when you look at the numbers. We only buy Organic milk and RBTS free other dairy products. We do only use meat mostly as a condiment. Oh I only buy organic beef now. I really watch our food waste also.

Seriously, I would never been able to make the switch if two things had not happen. First we had to go gluten free and most process food contains some sort of gluten in it. Second I needed really to free up about $40 from our budget each week in the beginning. There was a lot of trial and error and for a couple of months we were spending about $500 figuring everything out and that was before joining the CSA.

I totally get eating crap and feel your pain. But just know it is doable.

BTW I find the Hillybilly housewife to be very $$$. If I am going to eat like she suggest I can do it much cheaper.

Feeling your pain here, I am starting today. I dont even have any of the allowed foods in the house, so I am going to have to go to the store in order to eat! Good luck to both of us!

Hi mamas.

Wow, mamamoo! Awesome grades!

I have 2 classes ending in a week, both online and accelerated. I'm pretty sure I'll get As in both, which will really help my poor gpa, which got very low after last semester. Then I start a new one at the end of the month. I still don't know for sure about summer. I am definitely trying to transfer schools, though, to the more affordable state uni.

Oh the food thing, always an inner conflict for me. Lately I just try to buy things that aren't blatantly unhealthy, but aren't as organic and packed with whole grains as I would like. I've also splurged on a few convenience foods lately in order to allow me to eat and maintain my sanity.

Have a good day everyone.
