soap nuts?

Can someone talk to me about soap nuts? I just ordered a big bag to try and I'm hoping they work well on ds's diapers, because he seems to be having problems with detergents..

Anyways, I read the directions but I wanted to get some feedback from people who've actually used them. Do they work well with cold water or should I just use hot? Any other advice, tips, feedback?

thanks!

I 've used them but for me they are kind of expensive., I wish they weren't becuse I really liked them. Maybe one day i'll just grow my own soap nut tree!! :

They work best in hot water. If you do a cold load, soak the nuts in hot water to prep them. Here is a link with a bunch of info- http://www.maggiespureland.com/

hmm, I don't think they're expensive at all since I only use 5-7 in a bag and use that bag at least 3 times. I think they work fine, though I have no experience with cloth diapers. for cloth pads I do soak them in baking soda first and I also add an organic bleach/stain remover to the load. so that obviously adds to the cost. but it smells clean even without the stain remover, and regular stains disappear, too. so I think soap nuts are a good choice! oh, I never use cold water, so no advice there.
