Being anemic can increase your chances of hemorrhage? - Page 2

Haven't made it out the way of the coop as I planned but will for sure today. Never bought Floradix but they have to have it there. Also need to get more RRL tea there, nasty garbage...

I don't eat meat... But I could eat broccoli until the cows come home. And yeah, MAJOR cheese fiend, so no dairy? Hmmm, I guess she's worth it, but she'll hear about it later!

Thanks!!

I'm amazed that your hcp wasn't more on top of your iron a loooong time ago. A vegetarian who loves cheese??? You're practically asking for anemia! I'm sure the Floradix will help.

Really?

Well I did get the Floradix a bit ago...when I am done "needing to sit" I'll take some. Going out and coming home requires recovery!

And I just scarfed down some perogies w/cheese...guess I need to be serious about eliminating it...won't be easy...

You don't have to totally eliminate dairy, you just have to separate it from any iron-rich foods or supplements by a few hours. But since you're in such a time crunch, and you need to be consuming as much natural iron as possible, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to cut out dairy for now. If you just ate the perogies, you might as well wait a while before the floradix.

Is it the calcium that interferes w/ iron absorbtion, or is it something else in the dairy? I *think* it is the calcium but somehow I can't remember for sure right now.

Overall I think dairy is great for the protein you get out of it. Its just that a lot of vegetarians tend to have trouble getting enough iron in the first place, and when you add constant iron-absorption-blocking dairy consumption... well, like I said, I consider that "asking for" anemia.
