Well, I'm finally able to say it, our gorgeous daughter was born on Wednesday at 12:52pm. We had a long but amazing labor/delivery with her and I can't say more about how well things went given the hospital birth. I did require about 8 stitches (2nd degree tears) and am sitting here a bit crooked so I'll have to post more details later but here it is in a nutshell:
Started labor on Sunday morning, ended up petering out by evening. On Monday we tried DTD (brought on bloody show) and followed that with, castor oil and blue/black cohosh to try to get things started with no luck. We saw the doc on Monday and they said things looked good but they wanted to do an NST and another ultrasound to check on my fluid levels that were a bit low on Friday. We also tried accupuncture and that helped get contractions started but nothing that lasted. On Tuesday the ultrasound showed the baby was out of amneotic fluid and they wanted to induce me. I just cried and cried. My DH and unofficial doula, Noel, were very supportive and talked me through it all. I agree to start with some mispostle (not sure of the spelling on that one) which is much less harsh than pitocin and is inserted vaginally, reducing the need for IV. BUT, the waterbirth was out
.
We got to the hospital at about 2 and after 1/2 the normally required doseage, labor started and didn't stall. I was able to labor in the jacuzzi for a while and my water broke while I was in it (around 11 or 12pm). Labor kicked into full force at that point but my body stalled. I stayed at 7.5cm with full contractions 2min apart, lasting 1min for 5 hours! When I was finally able to push, she came out pretty quick - kicking the whole way, LOL!
Daddy was able to catch her, it still makes me teary eyed to think about it! I was too weak to hold her for long on the birthing stool so they got me into bed - in the mean time, Lily attempted to breast feed on dad and pooped right in his hand as he was holding her
. As soon as I had her in my arms, she started nursing and has taken to the breast like a pro.
I can't wait to post pics of my little peanut! The computer has a virus right now but I'm able to connect through DH's work server. The limitations on it don't allow me to post pics yet but I will soon for certain.
We are in full baby mooning, coming home yesterday and we haven't been able to stop staring at this perfect little baby. I can't believe how lucky we all are. The whole journey was worth it and then some.
I miss my 2/08 mamas and hope to have the computer back tomorrow so I can get caught up. Hugs and baby moon love for all you who have birthed. ELVs to those of you in labor right now and patience and understanding to those of you who are still waiting to hold your little one - your time is just around the corner!
