Has a thread been started about this book. I just finished it and would love to discuss!

Oh, I love this book! Anything in particular you'd like to discuss?

I love that his wife had homebirths and Greg said something like, "With as much time as I've spent in hospitals, I was happy to stay as far away from them as possible for our child's birth." I'm paraphrasing horribly because I read the book 6 months ago.

I thought it was wonderful. I enjoyed every minute of it.

What an inspiring life he lives.

It was very inspiring. I loved reading about that part of the world.

He was doing great stuff but I felt sad that he had to be gone from his own kids so long.

That's an intriguing title. Can someone tell me what the book is about? Thanks.

I enjoyed it, too. I liked that he wasn't perfect.

If you liked this, I highly recommend Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder. It's about a doctor who works in Haiti.

Yes, that, and I'm also currently in the middle of Mountains Beyond Mountains (which I actually like more). I've been doing a lot of thinking on this topic and it seems to me that those who choose these "things" bigger than themselves sacrifice. They essentially have to choose other people's children over their own (or choose not to have children). Thus far, I've never studied a life such as Greg Mortenson or Paul Farmer and not felt that their families are sacrificed for the greater good. I don't think you can have it all after all in these instances. I'm often inspired by them but realize that I could never have a passion greater than my passion for my own children. I find it very fascinating. They are highly inspiring.
