Comp experts! I need your help! (Pc vs Mac)

So, my pc is dead. I've buried more pc's than I can count. I'm thinking of making the switch to the almighty Mac. But, I know next to nothing about them other than "how great they are".

Anyone make the switch? How different is it? Can I have multiple users like Windows? (big family )

Tell me everything you know!

TIA!

if you go to the apple website, they have a lot of info about switching.

and you can see if you have an apple store near you where you can go and try out the products. that would be the best thing. You can even make an appt. with a personal shopper to make sure you get the needed one on one time.

DP is a geek, and has both. However, when talking with him about benefits of one over the other, he says that most applications/games/software programs will run on PC, Macs are more limited in that sense.

At the same time, if you mostly use it for internet, and don't care much about gaming or software compatibility, then Mac is safer.

Good luck

P.S. Mac fascinates me, but I'm too used to my pc. Being a creature of habit - I don't think I'll ever switch.

We have had both types over the years, right now we are 100% mac. With the current OS you can have separate user accounts, and yes you can have multiple windows open, pretty much just like windows. If you want to spend the money, you can even have windows on your mac, I know people that have this for work reasons. ummm. I am not a computer expert at all BTW. I like my macs. I feel safer with them. There is less software available, but we aren't really into that much stuff like that. We just use our computers for internet browsing, homework, photos, music, that kind of thing.

I'm so not a gamer. I mostly use it for email, internet and itunes. I like the fact that I can have separate users - theres 4 of us with our own itunes accounts.

I think I have some work to do.

Thank you!

I'm a Graphic Designer so I'm a total Mac lover. But we do have both in the house even though I hardly ever touch the PC unless my husband has done something to it and it needs to be fixed.

On Macs, you can even run a program called Parallel that allows you to run Windows and Mac OSX simultaneously, meaning you can switch from one to the other without any problems. But the Mac is SO user friendly though and it is ALOT safer than a PC when your talking about viruses, etc.

We're a dual platform house, but I use a Mac as my personal machine. Ds inherited my less than perfect iBook. I love my Mac and have not had any problems with it. It is more important for me to edit/create digital photography and video than to play games.

I bought a Mac one year ago, and wish I'd done it sooner. I was nervous, because I've used PCs since about 1990. It took me about a day to get used to using it, and since then I've absolutely loved it! I raved so much that my mom bought one, and now she's like a Steve Jobs fangirl.

My favorite thing is that it just works. No blue screens of death, no crashes, no viruses. I do all my personal banking on the Mac, and used Turbo Tax to do my taxes this year, too. I always make my MIL a photo book for Christmas, and this year, it took me 45 minutes (in iPhoto) vs. the usual 2 full days (on the PC.) I'm a scrapbooker, and I love iPhoto so much more than Photoshop Elements.

Before I took the plunge, I read the book "Switching To The Mac" by David Pogue.

Hope that helps a little bit!
