weekly thread March 3rd- 9th Bring on the babies!! - Page 2

I hear you on waking to feel like you haven't slept! Man that's annoying! And my poor hips! Oh how they ache when I wake. And now the carpal tunnel has set in and I can hardly hold on to anything. My poor hands are pins and needles all the time!

But I'm so thankful to have made it to term since my mother never did make it to term with her pregnancies and I was worried I'd go early. Honestly, I could use another week to get things ready before baby arrives. Which is fine really since I'm only 37w 5 d so I've likely got another week!

It's actually been crazy busy here. We've spent the last 2 weeks getting ready to sell our house. We've now sold it and have bought a new one and so it's been one thing after another after another to get everything done for the house sale and to find a new great home. We just have a few things left to do for the house stuff and then we're done and we'll be ready to welcome baby with much less insanity! It's hard to believe that baby is so close to arriving!!!!!

This week's appointment showed a little improvement. I am now 1.5 cm dialated and the baby is lower, but still floating. I think I might be losing some of my mucous plug bit by bit. I have almost everything done on my to do list. I just have to finish packing the hospital bag, and the kids' bags in case they have to stay overnight somewhere, and I still have a few things to clean up and pick up in our bedroom to get it ready for baby. The only complaint I really have this week is that he seems to be trying to head-butt his way out of my cervix. Ouch!

Well, here I sit...still sick and pregnant. I want to be well so that I can happily anticipate my upcoming birth instead of fearing when labor will begin because I feel so miserable. I even tried to find out if I have Strep throat today by going to 2 different places and was met with nothing but idiocy. Where do these people come from anyways? The first person wouldn't do the strep swab because I'm pregnant and apparently swabbing a pregnant person's mouth is some crazy liability. Second place I got to wait for over 2 hours for them to do the swab but it wasn't the rapid test so I still know NOTHING!!! Sent me home with a prescription for antibiotics without knowing if I even need them and days from meeting this baby. I am so frustrated (got any tips on feeling better since my throat is KILLING me and I can't talk or eat).

And while I should be excited about gearing up for the birth with all these contractions, I keep hoping they will go away til I feel better.

Well Nichole, maybe you'll get better by the time you know the results of the strep test. I can't believe you ran into such idiots.

The new house is a mess, but I'm doing pretty well. Unfortunately our trial run with the tub tonight didn't go well. I asked the husband to try blowing it up (we have the fishy pool) but the air pump wouldn't stay connected to the valve. I need to take a look at it tomorrow, and maybe go find a new pump. Either that or we'll just have to take turns pumping it up by hand, and just leave it inflated until the baby comes (we do have an extra room we can shut it into to keep the cats away from it).

Something definitely changed today. I woke up and just felt tired and uncomfortable on a whole other level than what I have been. I hope it's a sign of something happening soon, but I'm not counting on it.

I was talking to my doula and told her that I've lost two large pieces of my mucous plug...she thinks the membrane sweep tomorrow could bring on labor. Boy that would be nice I'm not that impatient but I'm sick of listening to dh whine!

Had my 37 wk appointment this morning, and there's a whole lotta nothin' to report. I've hit my typical just-over-200-pounds mark for the end of pregnancy. Urine strips continue to look absolutely clear. My blood pressure is holding very steady. I'm measuring right on track. Swelling is present but minimal. Baby is still moving normally. No cervical checks yet. BH contractions have all but stopped over the last week or so for me.

I asked if they will generally try to guess weight based on external feeling. The assistant said that the midwife will usually do that, but not her, as she doesn't have enough experience to really tell. And of course I've missed the midwife for my last few visits, because she's been away at births.

As far as I can tell, I'm not going into labor for quite some time still. But at least everything is still looking good.

I also did my GBS swab today. Hoping it comes out negative like always!

Just had my 38 week appointment. I'm starting to get kind of excited! Baby's head is engaged 3/5, and after a few weeks of dithering about whether it was cephalic or not the midwife says yes, it definitely is, which is a relief. I've had a bit of swelling and traces of protein, but nothing too dramatic, and my BP's good--lower than last week. And the baby's measuring bang on 38 weeks (fundal height, I mean), so that's grand...

It was a home visit, and it was pretty exciting to have the midwife looking speculatively around the living room, and suggesting which bits of furniture would need to be moved for the birth, and how to best fit the pool in, and so on. She had a look at the baby's room too, and was good enough to be enthusiastic about the curtain I'd just sewn for the wardrobe. We talked about things to eat and drink during labour, and stuff--things that really brought home the immediacy of the situation, you know? It was cool.

There aren't any particular signs I'm going into labour any time soon--and I'd really rather not until Monday at least, when we pick up the birth pool--but even so, I'm getting kind of hyped up now! Must focus on actually getting stuff done...

So how long exactly can pre-labor symptoms last?! I've got nausea, loose bowels, horrid contractions, swelling, lots of mucus loss, and a whole lot more, and nothing is happening. For DAYS now! If nothing has changed cervix-wise at my appt. tomorrow I might die.

Well I've got just 2 days left

:

I have a bit of swelling in my feet and legs the past 2 days, which increases at night. I don't want to go anywhere anymore. I. am. so. done.

I had my 38 wk appt today too

All is well. I'm swelling a fair amount which is a drag but what can you do? Baby's head is engaged at 4/5ths palpable (so baby has a ways to go yet...) Sadly though, baby is posterior. sigh. I was pretty sure that was the case anyway. Baby does move around a lot though so we'll see what we can go to get that kid flipped! Meanwhile we've managed to gather together everything we need for the homebirth adn have put it on one place.

We did have to go get a new hose since after 45 mins or so of working, Jesse determined that our hose was really truely buried and frozen to the ground in the backyard (there's about 4 ft of snow in our backyard...) so, oops! guess I shoudl have brought that in earlier! I never liked that hose anyway! They were wondering at the hardware store why we needed a hose the night before a big snowstorm lol!

Other than that, I'm pretty much ready to go. I've been noticing a big increase in braxton hicks contractions but nothing that hurts and totally unpredictable. Still... it makes me think that baby's coming soon

(oh and we sold our house and bought a new one in about 2 weeks which is crazy but wow was it ever good to get everything done before the baby arrived! We move the end of June )

Well, it's my due date today, and there is NO sign of this baby arriving any time soon

No mucous plug, no contractions, back pain, nothin'!

I remember a little something that looked like ewcm in the few days that DD was born - the rest of the mucous plug came out during labour. I haven't even had that this time!

Sigh. I'm trying to keep calm about it and realize that he will be born on his birthday and not sooner than that, but at the same time, I'm going CRAZY! We were decided t have everything prepared by 37 weeks because DD was born 10 days early, and now I'm sitting here with no 'projects' to keep me busy.

I hope you are all holding up well!

Was it your thread in TAO? If so, maybe you should repeat last night's behavior

HA! Yes it was, and yes we will

I think last night's activity is the only thing keeping me calm and happy today, but I'm sure there will be tears by the end of the day if there are still no signs of baby.

I'm 38w 4d, and things may be picking up this morning. I've been having contractions on and off since Sunday night, increasing in strength, but mostly just in the evening until yesterday when they went on all day (though still easy to mostly ignore and do other stuff during). I've been losing bits of mucus plug since then too.

This morning they woke me up at 4:30am, definitely stronger than yesterday and regularly 10 minutes apart. It's almost 8:30 now, and they're holding pretty steady at 10 minutes apart, they got as close as 8 for a bit and then I had a really huge soft poo (sorry TMI) and now they're back to 10 min apart.

I feel ready- we never did a full trial run with the pool, but it is inflated and set up at least, so that's something. I hope this is it!

Beth, congrats on the new house!

jillybeans, what's the update on the pre-labor?

Over here 38w+1, total exhaustion, no desire to even leave the house - or clean it for that matter!

I spent the day reading my childbirth books... I am still a little nervous about this whole labor thing! During my entire pregnancy labor seemed abstract and far away... now when I think that it WILL be happening to ME in the next few weeks it seems totally different! I assumed I would feel ready by now... but whenever I have period like cramps it kinda makes me nervous about the pain...

I feel super funky today. Just off. I'm tired and cranky and stuck at home with ds and no car I don't think anything's happening any time soon baby-wise. She's still completely OP and won't move, so I'm trying to prepare for a lot of back labor (though, how one can really prepare for that I don't know!).

On the positive side, we did the full run-through with the birth pool this AM and I'm glad I did b/c I was missing parts and it took me an hour to figure it out... dh would have been super frustrated 'cause he's not mechanically inclined at all! DS thought it was great fun to get into a pool in the dining room! He kept splaching water all over my belly & talking to the baby!

We ended up skipping the NST today, the OB had looked at my LMP due date which was the 5th and not my u/s due date which is tomorrow. Checked me and I was dilated enough to sweep my membranes some, but I just cramped for awhile and that's it. Oh well
post #39 of 47
Had my 40-week appt today. MW swept my membranes again and we did castor oil this time too. So far I'm crampy, having mild contractions and unloaded what felt like 10 gallons of water into the toilet. I'm hoping this picks up soon and we have our little Volkswagen tonight.
Aaah, the lovely effects of castor oil! I hope it is worth it for you, mama_in_PA!

DS & I both woke up with mild head colds today. ugh Guess that was why I felt so funky yesterday. Off to nap....
