What's For Dinner? March 2008! - Page 3

You're welcome, Lizzy. In LA I like Real Food Daily and Native Foods. We've also been to Good Earth Cafe. My daughter knows of a nice vegan Ethiopian place in the Westwood/Santa Monica area. I could find out the name if you are interested. There is also a Native Foods in Orange County.

Dinner tonight is baked then fried tofu cubes in Indonesian rice and vegetables.

I'm so jealous! My dd works on the same block as the one in Westwood. She eats there a few times a week.

The Ethiopian restaurant is called Rahel. It is actually in West Hollywood on South Fairfax.

There is also a Real Food Daily in Santa Monica. I love that place.

Tonight there was a PTO meeting for my son's preschool so I had to get dinner ready quick. I made whole wheat penne pasta, with Trader Joe's roasted garlic marinara sauce and TJ's meatless meatballs along with roasted broccoli. I was surprised how good it was for no effort.

I think tomorrow I will make taco salad with fresh guacamole -- I have some ripe avocadoes I need to use.

Thank you so much!!! Maybe we can try all of them. We'll have a kitchen in San Diego though. Is there a Whole Foods or similar store there?

Do you know the part of town where you will be staying? There are plenty of Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Henry's. There is a vegetarian co-op in the Ocean Beach neighborhood near Sea World and Mission Bay that is open to the public.

Last night we had chili that I cooked earlier in the day for the kids I babysit. I put sweet potato in it (actually yams) and I'd really like to thank whoever suggested that in the Chili thread. It's really good that way!

We'll be staying in Oceanside, but spending most of our time in San Diego, going to the zoo and Sea World.

Ohhhhhh, chili w/yams sounds good! It's been so cold and crummy here...

I have been working on a massive batch of tofu fried rice for tonight (and for lots of delicious leftovers).

Tonight we had the Seitan Vietnamese Baguettes with Dipping Sauce from Vcon with steamed nutty broccoli and a green salad. Oh and beer. Vegan beer. Yee-haw. :

Sure thing!

Tonight's dinner is pizza and salad.

Tonight we are having spaghetti and breadsticks. I took Trader Joe's pizza dough and cut it into strips, baked it, and then brushed melted Earth Balance and sprinkled garlic powder on top.

Added sun-dried tomatoes to the leftover pasta carbonara with broccoli, and it was just the thing to complete the dish. YUM!

We had spaghetti and bean balls from Veganomicon (well, I used jarred spaghetti sauce). I thought the bean balls were good, but they were pretty bean-y (uh, duh. lol), so dp and ds weren't thrilled with them.

I do like my tofu-nutballs better I'd have to say that the beanballs are probably healthier though, so...

I've got pumpkin & black bean soup in the works for tonight. Recipe thanks to Crunchy Domestic Goddess (http://crunchydomesticgoddess.com/20...n-soup-recipe/)

Vegan Express is due back to the library on Sunday, so may not make any more recipes out of it this week, but I think I'm going to buy it with my Christmas money

We made last-minute-quesadillas last night, with canned refried beans and soy cheese. Corn on the cob on the side, and orange slices for dessert. Looking over the table, we noticed that we were having a very orange-and-yellow dinner!

My plan for the weekend is to try making Isa's knishes from Vegan with a Vengeance before I have to return it to the library. Anyone else ever try that? How were they?
