Insert/doubler out of microfiber towel?

I have a microfiber towel that I used to use on my hair, and now want to recycle for diapering. How many layers thick, and what dimensions should I make each insert? And should I just cut it out and sew the edges of each layer together? I'm very new to sewing. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I've been experimenting with microfiber inserts. I made one with the center of a prefold and two layers of microfiber. I straight stitched the three layers together with a about 1/4" seam allowance (making a prefold sandwich with microfiber bread), and then I zig zagged the edges for sort of a mock serge look to keep the edges flat. If it was just microfiber, I might use three or four layers. You could always put the layers together, see how thick it is, and then pour some water to see how much it will absorb.

Also, I don't think microfiber is good touching the babe's skin. I think it wicks moisture too well, and can dry the skin.

Thanks for the reply lizziebits, and the tip about not putting next to his skin!

I make my fitteds with four layers of microfiber towel in them and they work great. I have a few pockets and I sewed a microfiber towel onto a prefold and then fold it in thirds and stuff it. To me, this makes for a way too bulky diaper that tends to not fit well at all. It's crazy absorbant though!
