Pattern finder by yarn type?

I swear I've seen one somewhere. Is there a pattern browser/finder that will show you patterns based off the type yarn you want to use? Not weight but actual type of yarn?

Ravelry?

Explain your question better - what yarn are you trying to use? Are you looking for patterns for cotton regardless of weight?

I checked ravelry and it wasn't quite what I wanted but gave me ideas.

I'm trying to use up this damn Rainbow Boucle (JoAnn Sensations). If I weren't such a sucker for the colorway I would not have this yarn. I should have rethought it before buying it. I got it for the sole purpose of doing an afgahn/couch blanket. Two problems though. I want something defined which is proving to be impossible with this stuff and I don't like blankets on couches. I didn't even when I bought the stuff.

I have a pillow pattern I want to try but other than that I have nothing and a lot of boucle. I found patterns for sweaters but that just seems wrong. I wish I had this stuff in wool. Oh the happy dance if I had this colorway in wool. Superwash wool would be better. And in the same amount. Anyone want to trade?

Are you attached to keeping the yarn? There seem to be a decent number of shawls worked with that yarn. You could do one as a prayer shawl for that group.

How much do you have? Would you wear it? I see stuffies made from it as well. Is there some little one who might go nuts for a boucle bear/cat/pig?

What color is it?

Maybe you could knit a rug, double stranded? Might be nice and squishy and washable.

peace, Beth

I'd hang on to it for a while...just tuck it away and trust that sooner or later it will announce itself with the perfect project, or someone will come along who needs something knitted in that. IME (and forgive me if this sounds uber-flaky, but...) if you force a yarn, trying to find a pattern to "use it up" with, you won't enjoy knitting it. Just let it chill in your stash for a while and let it speak to you when it's ready. (Cue the dolphin-and-ocean-wave-sounds CD) But seriously, I have some weird acrylic (and even some really nice wool and alpacas) that I am not yet sure what to do with, but I trust that sooner or later they'll be the perfect yarn for a project that I really want to knit.

I don't like blankets on couches either. Personally, I've always wanted to knit something for the sole purpose of hanging it over one of these.

Isn't two years enough of a marinade!? I know what your saying though. That's why it hasn't been knit up yet.

amey I do want to keep it. It's in our wedding colors (can't find it on joann.com though) and I'd like to use it. It just happens to be in my early knitting days before I knew I disliked novelty yarn so much.

knittermama i would totally do blankets if I had one of those!

Ahhh. Then is it worth getting a quilt rack as motivation for the yarn? Sort of like a reward for knitting up your wedding blanket?

I don't suppose DH is handy and can make the rack and you can make the blanket and wouldn't that be all lovey-dovey?

Over here, we call them towel rails and we hang towels on them. I think you should try and find someone who doesn't hate knitting with acrylic and get them to knit the afghan for you...

: Umm I wish. We were actually talking about that the other day. He's sucks at that thing called handy. I don't. I'm quite handy. He thinks it's wrong.

I may do that. I think you'd be awesome to meet! I keep telling Dh about "flapjack in the UK" and he just looks at me like I'm nuts.

Hey. I know it's not exactly what you are looking for, but did you try the library? I just started knitting recently, so I went on a quest for knitting books at our small town library, and ended up with over 900 options. It seems that the books geared towards what most of them call "hip young things" use mostly boucle and other "fashion" yarns, you may find something there. It will probably be just a small project, but maybe you could get some ideas. Good luck.
