I thought it was good, except that it almost seemed to imply that there is never really a valid case where a woman would truly be unable to breastfeed even if she wanted to.

Quote:
Finally, who does feel guilty about breastfeeding? Not the women who make an informed choice to bottle feed. It is the woman who wanted to breastfeed, who tried, but was unable to breastfeed. In order to prevent women feeling guilty about not breastfeeding what is required is not avoiding promotion of breastfeeding, but promotion of breastfeeding coupled with good, knowledgeable and skillful support.
I agree in general, but it kind of makes it sound like "good, knowledgeable, and skillful support" would 100% prevent situations where mothers who wanted to breastfeed weren't able to do so. I think it would lessen the number of women who find themselves in that situation, but I don't think it would eliminate them completely.

I think what it is trying to say is that if you stand behind your choice to FF 100% you won't be made to feel guilty. So basically, if a FF mother DOES feel guilty, then maybe part of her wants to BF, kwim?
The women who genuinely aren't able to breastfeed are going to hurt either way, regardless of outside sources. That isn't to say that we shouldn't extend empathy and sympathy to those individuals, but we shouldn't not promote BF'ing just to avoid making those few individuals feel more guilty. I don't know if any of that came out right but hopefully you get what I'm saying.
