New carpet

We are getting new carpet!
Reason we are getting new carpet is we are moving into my parents old house (the house I grew up in) as they just bought a brand new house and there cat had a spraying/peeing problem. I am worried about the fumes/off gases, should I be?
We wont be living there until the 15th of March and they will be installed this Saturday. What should/can I do?

Thank you!!

I just signed papers for a new modular home, one of the papers we signed was an acknowledgment regarding the carpets that they are new and emit formldehyde. I was told it disipates but that you can help move it along by airing it out. I plan on big time airing it with fans and such. I have a baby who spends is still spending tummy time on that floor so it creeps me out a little.

I had to laugh when the guy explaining it made the comment "its only a problem if you are sensitive to it" ........Its formaldehyde??!! They way he was talking about it you'd think it would be nothing..

I would do it at a time when you know you are going to be able to air it out. And I would maybe buy a good air purifier (not your typical run of the mill but a good one) and get green plants that combat formalyhide. I would be nervous too!

My brother and his wife just put in new carpet in their basement and the smell of it made me really sick. It doesn't bother them, but I have a very sensitive system and it bothers me. My DH (he's an architect) says that people are supposed to air out new carpet before they bring it into the house to install it. Most people/companies don't do this, but it is really supposed to be done for a couple of days to get some of the off gassing out. You could get a air purifier or something too, I suppose.

From what I have read on other posts about your DS, he sounds similar to my DS and it would affect my DS to be exposed to new carpet off gassing.

Wow, thanks for remembering my son and me.
I am going to call the carpet place and tell them to air it out.
We are in a very small town so I think they will listen.
