Is the bee movie appropriate for 5 year olds?

My DD likes that bee from the bee movie, although she has not seen the actual movie. I checked out the review on Kids in Mind and it really sounds terrible.
Can anyone put it in context for me?
Right now my vote is "no" for her seeing it but am I being silly?

did your kids like it...did they understand it? It sounds above a 5 year olds understanding. Also if you know any other movies that might have cool bees let me know. DD really likes bugs :

My kids are 5, 6, & 9. We saw it in the theatre, I see nothing wrong with it. they thought it was hilarious.

DD is 4.5yo. We saw it together and neither of us really cared for it. She was bored.

She likes the Never Ending Story and stuff like that tho, so ymmv.

My kids haven't seen it, but DH & I have. Honestly, I thought it was a lousy movie, and while I have no major objections to my DD seeing it I also don't see any point in her watching it.

My biggest objection (as the mother of a DD and conscious of sexism, as well as a former beekeeper) is that all of the significant bee characters are *male* . That just bugged the heck out me. The only female bees in the movie were relegated to swooning side-characters.

My DS was almost 4 when we went, and we left halfway through. He's not typically sensitive in movies, but this one really upset him. There are several scenes where the main character is in peril, and I think the loopy 'flying' also bothered him. We left soon after the fantasy sequence where the main bee imagines the girl he loves learns to fly a plane so they can fly together.... and then it crashes and explodes on the side of a hill.

There's also a scene at the honey farm that made it seem like the bees were in a concentration camp or something -- we were getting our stuff together to leave at that point though.

We just took the kids to the theater to see this and they all loved it, even the baby who is almost 18mos was intrigued.

My dd saw it when she was not quite 5 and really enjoyed it. It was her first "movie theater" movie. Maybe our standards for what is enjoyable are lower than other people's!!

DS is 3 and we took him to see it. It was "okay". We have definetaly seen better. But it was cute and he always enjoys going to the movies.

Both my kids liked it (at the time 5 & 8).

It was better than I expected, but I really didn't expect much!
