Am I miscarrying? Any way to prevent it?

Ok, I know you're not my midwife... but it's too early and I don't have one yet. I do need some advice, though.

I'm currently 15 dpo. We got our first positive HPT at 9 dpo, they got darker until 13 dpo, lighter yesterday, and gone today. Also, this morning my BBT dropped by .2 but not below the coverline....

...so I'm feeling bad about this, although I don't have any cramping or bleeding yet. I can't get a blood draw until 21 dpo because I'm going out of town Thu - Sat (17-19 dpo).

FWIW, this was my first ovulation after my son was born 26 months ago and we are still breastfeeding. My LP after DD was born was 10-11 days.

1. Is there anything I can take (ie tea, supplement, natural progesterone) that would support the pregnancy if it were healthy but not prolong something that was catastrophically flawed?

2. What can I expect if I do lose it? Should I not go out of town?

Sigh... thank you.

: I'm not a HCP, but speaking from personal experience to your second question--I miscarried at 7 weeks 0 days. The bleeding was probably comparable to a heavy period (I used cloth pads for the first time so it's hard for me to compare). I didn't have much cramping although I took a couple of ibuprofen as soon as I felt cramping because I didn't want to deal with any pain, and that was all it took to get the cramping to go away. I did pass a good sized clot, which I wouldn't think you would have at this stage. IMO there wouldn't be any reason not to go out of town (unless you don't want to for emotion reasons) since, if you do miscarry, it probably won't be much different than a menstrual period. :

It may be a chemical pregnancy, it could be that something was very genetically wrong with the embryo and it was not viable.

Many women have chemical pregnancies and don't ever know it. It is VERY common for a woman to never know that conception took place because often the period is either on time or only slightly delayed. The women I have known who had positive pregnancy tests, only for them to turn negative have had what they described to me as typical periods following.

If it were me, I'd start charting and find out what your LP is. If it's something like 8-9 days then perhaps something like B-6 or natural projesterone would help. I conceived the last two kiddos with a 10-11 day LP after I lengthened it by a day using a b vitamin. Vitex can help as well, but will make breastmilk taste sour (it turns to "weaning milk" with higher potassium and sodium which tastes sour) so it's not something that I pursued. The B-6 was enough for us.

, either way. I have met a lot of women who have had heartbreak from early testing. 9 DPO is REALLY early for a positive pregnancy test.

Well, it sounds to me like a chemical pregnancy (although I'm no doctor, just based on experience). It's quite possible to have a BHP and then a negative one a few days later if the the embryo couldn't sustain. I see you've been charting. I think if you continue, you'll probably see a consistent drop in your temp as the hormones slowly make it out of your system.

As a pp, so many women have chemical pregnancies and never even know it because they get what they think is their period, maybe a few days later than normal. It's just that you tested so early, you got the hormones in the up swing.

To answer your questions, I'm unaware of anything you can do or take to prevent this from happening. As for traveling, I think it should be fine. You might bleed a little more than usual but chemicals pregnancies mimick a period very closely. There are typically no major side effects.

I'm sorry you're going through this.

It happened to me twice. As far as I know, nothing can be done to prevent it once the temps drop. I'm so sorry.

I've had 4 chemical pregnancies over the course of my childbearing years and I can say with absolute certainty that I would have known I was pregnant whether I tested or not at least three of those times, so please don't beat yourself up for "setting yourself up" by testing early. When you know your body well and/or are learning a lot about it while TTC, a chemical pregnancy is not so easy as "well, if I just hadn't have tested, I wouldn't have known."

A lot of times a pregnancy does end for no apparent reason, be it a chemical pregnancy (which is just another term...an a rather insensitive one, I think...for a miscarriage before 5 weeks) or a later miscarriage.

But sometimes, as in my case, low progesterone can be the cause of a chemical pregnancy. This is often indicated in your chart, as a short LP (as mentioned by a pp) or with a chart that jumps up and down between low and high temps in the LP, after the requisite three temps that confirm O. In either case, there are natural remedies you can try during the LP, or you can see about having a day 21 progesterone drawn and possibly treating it with supplemental progesterone. All of this would have to be to whatever your comfort level is, especially since you are nursing and this is your first (and hopefully only!) loss.

As for what to do for this pregnancy, I'm afraid there's not much . I'm so sorry!!

You can go with progesterone cream it wont do any harm.

I do need to know though did you use the same brand of test each time or are you using different brands? Because the can make a huge difference. Not all hpt's are created equal and some pick up much lower levels than others.

Also I went through the hpt not getting darker thing and it turns out the test strips I were using were horrible about not getting darker even when the hcg was rising.

Thank you for all your replies!

I think I have my answer. I have some light cramping and bright spotting.

I'm sorry mama -It's hard I've had 2 chemical pregnacies/early m/c and an 8week m/c and it sounds like thats what has happened. It is unfortunatly very common but not somthing you can do alot about. Take it easy and maybe spend some time for yourself if you can.

I'm really sorry.

As far as what to expect and how it affects your trip, it is likely going to be like a heavy period and not much worse.

Not a professional, but I just wanted to say that I'm sorry and thinking of you, mama!
