Why Am I So Darn Nice?!?

I lent my sister our playyard when she had her DD in '06. I got it back from her last year before we moved to TN. It was all boxed back up and I (stupidly) assumed it was in good working order. I pulled it out this am to give it a final cleaning before LO arrives.

WELL....drum roll...

1. It had puke all over it!

2. The bassinet part is broken and missing the pad and sheet

3. The diaper holder that hangs on the side is trashed

4. It's missing the vibrating music box (never used it, but it would be nice to have all the accessories)

I am LIVID. Knowing my sister, I expected that it would need to be cleaned, but I wasn't expecting it to be totally trashed. I want to call her and ask her to send me money for a new one. Is that out of line? When I gave it to her, it was clean and in pretty much mint condition. It had been used for my last DD only for a short period of time.

BAH! I'm mad!!

what a lousy surprise

I would be totally ticked off. I would call her and say wow what happened to the play pen? I don't remember it looking like that. Sorry girl

Wow, that's awful! I would definitely say something to her, and ask her to replace it if you think she would.

Ugh. I would definitely call and ask what's up! But maybe wait until you're just a bit less livid. Sorry mama, that sucks.

oh there are so many things I would say/do....

why on earth would a person even give something that is that damaged to another person?

grrrr

good luck whatever you decide to do!

I would definitely give her a ring and let her know that wasn't at all cool. I'm not sure how you all's relationship is but if that was something my brother and his partner would have done, I would handle it by making a joke first like "Wow, really appreciate the pukey play pen, nice touch".

However you decide to bring it up, she should offer to replace it, of not tell her she should.

I'd call her up and at least tell her off. Sheesh that just sucks!

Vomit!?! That is so not nice. I have a sister this inconsiderate as well.

Can she help you buy a new one? that really sucks!

i'd be livid too hun, it's not really much to ask that if you let someone borrow something they send it back in the same condition. i'd deffo have a few choice words to say, none of which would be pleasent

Is it out of line to ask for a replacement? Are you serious? SHE was out of line & yes, you are too nice!

Thanks for the support.

I called her to talk to her.

GET THIS LOAD OF CRAP!

She says, "I thought you were giving it to that girl you were mentoring so I didn't bother too much with worrying about the condition it came back in".

I explained to her that I had to buy a new one yada yada. No sorry, no offer to help me pay for it, nada. Jerkhole.

Ugh. I don't care who she thought I was giving it to. She should have NEVER given ANYTHING to ANYBODY in that condition. Frankly, I'm embarassed that my own sister could be so gross.

So, I bought a new one yesterday. My other sister and my mom are shooting me a few bucks to defray the expense. That's a nice gesture and I'm thankful, however very disappointed that jerkhole sister didn't step up and take responsibility.

Oh well, lesson learned. My stuff is mine. I'm not lending things out anymore unless I really don't intend on getting them back. Period.

And FWIW, I'm not going to hold a grudge against my sister. She's still my sister and I love her despite her irresponsibility.

I got back the boppy I had loaned someone and SHE EFFING WASHED IT. WHO THE HELL WASHES A PILLOW?!?!

I'm so peeved. It's horribly lumpy and STICKY from fabric softener. Grrrrrr. So now I have to spend another 20 bucks that I shouldn't have to.

So I feel you.

I'm so sorry her washing it messed it up! We have allergy & asthma issues so I do occasionally wash our pillows And I actually washed my boppy several times and never had any problems with it. Maybe try washing it again before dropping the money on a new one, you've got nothing to lose at this point, right? I made sure that it was wrapped around the spinner (on a top loader), spun it an extra time and then dried it on hot without anything else in there: no dryer balls, fabric softener, etc. Mine never came out lumpy. I hope re-washing it can help balance out the lumps and you can avoid spending money on the same item twice!

I would tell her that others sent me $ due to her irrisponsability. Followed by a "Don't you feel any desire to help out at least with the cost?"

People irritate me. She's lucky to have a sister like you!

I'd just be more blunt and come out and say that she owes me $x to replace the damaged play pen, minus whatever the others already chipped in. Hell, she should be glad that she doesn't have to fork over the entire amount because of the other two's generosity.

If the phone call she already received from the OP didn't make her offer up money, I doubt a relatively subtle/mild comment like the one you're suggesting would really make her cough up.

I would be mortified giving something back to someone in that condition (or even anything that barely resembles that condition), I always have trouble imagining why other people have no issues doing it. But then I guess some people have no regard for the state of items, be it their own or that which they borrow from others, but more especially that which they borrow from others being that it doesn't hurt them in their own wallets when they destroy it.

Basic manners and common decency are hard to find among some people these days, sadly.
