The reasons I do the No-po method to wash my hair are
1 there are things in regular shampo that I don't want on my body.
2 My hair is nicer this way
3 I can go much longer between washing my hair without looking greesy/dirty
4 It's cheeper
5 It's more natural.

There are people areound the forum who can explane it all better than me

African American women should not use shampoo, because it dries out our hair. Conditioner has enough in it to clean our hair. This also works for anyone with curly hair. Curly hair tends to be very dry.

1. One less reason to go to Wal-Mart
2. My hair (and Dh's and DD's) are sooooo beautiful and soft and fluffy and tangle-free.
3. When was the last time I washed it? A week? It's so soft and fluffy and shiny...
4. Think about all the bottles of shampoo you've used in your life... probably wouldn't fit in your living room. wow. That's a lot of chemicals, production, trees, water, gas, testing, waste.
5. I'm cheap.
6. I smell better without all the artificial scents.
7. Bees don't chase me.
8. My hair doesn't fall out.
9. It's faster than wash, rinse, repeat, condition... I just pour diluted BS on my head scrub, and rinse.
10. Saves water, and my water bill- see #5
11. Did I tell you how soft and fluffy and shiny my hair is? I "always" had flat, thin, fine hair- now it's LUSH.

If u have curly or wavy hair, the author of Curly Girl says "NO SHAMPOO!!!" It's supposed to keep your hair more curly and manageable. And actually, it works for my curly daughter. I have bone straight hair, so I do poo.. hehhehe

I'm interested, but confused. If you don't use shampoo what do you use to clean your hair?. If I go 2 days without washing my head is a huge grease ball!

Check the sticky at the top of the forum, and search this forum for "no poo"-- you'll get tons of info!

You can use baking soda as a cleanser and apple cider vinegar as a "conditioner." If your hair is straight, flat, and quick to get greasy with shampoo, you may find you can skip the vinegar rinse.

Another method is conditioner only- more for dry, curly, coarse, or "unruly" hair. http://www.mothering.com/discussions...ghlight=no+poo

I love no-poo. But I didn't love ACV for the rinse. It felt heavy on my hair. So now I just quarter a lemon and put the wedges in the freezer. When it's time to no-poo, I take a wedge out and put it in a jar of water. When it's time to rinse, I squeeze the wedge in the water and use that. My hair feels lighter. I love it!

I wish I knew this growing up. I am half AA and my hair is kinkyish (inbetween AA and white curly). It is too soft and thin to relax w/o me worrying it would drop off and too kinky to wear down (have to blowdry and flat iron to do that and only in the cool/cold weather as it would frizz out in the heat).

I have struggle w/ dry and dandruff type hair (so have my siblings). And now I have children and my son hair gets dry very quickly also.

So now I am on my way to find out about this no poo thing.
