Hi all, forgive me for this long post but I'm trying to give as much info as I can to lay it all out there.
my DS turns 1 at the end of this month. I had hoped to continue nursing until he was 2 ( or whatever he wants) but following an early miscarriage and 2 bouts of the flu back to back in the last 2 months my milk supply is just shot. It dropped when I first found out I was pregnant, then came back with a vengence as I started MCing, then dropped again. My flu was so severe I needed to take dayquil/nightquil to function enough ( and not cough while bleeding so much) to care for my 2 children. But now it seems like I'm on the path to weaning my son if I can't get my supply back up.
To add to it my son is at that age where he wants to nurse for 10 seconds before wanting to get down and go play/explore, so getting him to sit down and nurse during the day is really difficult, even in a dark quiet room, in bed, or in the rocking chair, the usual spots. Sometimes he really wants to nurse but I guess theres not enough to satisfy him so he signs "milk" over and over again while getting frustrated at the breast until he finally cries for a sippy full of EBM/formula.
This past week I've been trying to squeeze in pumping every 3 hours and I'm only getting 1/2 - 1 oz total betwene 2 breasts
My breasts are smaller and never quite feel "full" anymore. Thats also why I'm thinking my son isn't staying interested during the way, I guess theres not enough to keep him interested.
I had been offering him EBM form my freezer stash in a sippy cup during the day, but I'm now out and had to start using formula to supplement. He likes solids and gets some fruit and cheese 3 times a day when we all sit down to eat. We co-sleep and he wakes up 1-2 times a night to nurse.
I'm eating a bowl of oatmeal every morning, 5 fenugreek capsules and 3 blessed thistle capsules 3 times a day, and drinking extra water. It doesn't seem to have any effect.
At this point the stress of trying to cram pumping into a hectic day as well as dealing with my son fussy at the breast, I'm not sure if theres anything left to do at this point or just accept it as time to wean.
I'd love any advice from you mamas who have nursed older babies, is it worth it at this point to keep trying to boost supply or just let him nurse for comfort and see if he weans as the supply drops?
TIA
