I wanted to share my good news- my 'early' baby gained 3lbs in a month! DD was born at 35 wks, very sleepy and jaundiced. Every 2-3 hours I nursed her as long as she stayed awake (2-3 mins) feed her EBM, repeat.
She cleared jaundice pretty quickly, but even a month later had not regained her birth weight. We also had serveral horrible weeks until I realized she can't tolerate dairy or soy in BM when I couldn't believe she kept anything in her tummy. Luckily, I picked a ped who is pro BFing and was willing to watch and wait. She'd been gaining slowly, but this month she had gained 3 lbs and is very healthy. So glad I resisted hospital pressure to use 'supplementation.'
It makes the exhausting wks I spent nursing/pumping & visiting the ped every two days, then the hour + nursing sessions every 2-3 hrs worth while to see her chubby cheeks and belly. I can finally relax, but my back is not responding well to to life with an 11 pounder!
Even better- I won a bet about her weight with DH and he had to buy dinner. A momma knows...
I know this is a common situtation so I wanted to share that it can be done and encourage other mommas!
