Postpartum hair loss?

When does it stop? DS is 4 months old and I'm still losing hair in huge amounts every time I brush or shower. I have very thick hair anyway so I'm not too worried about it...just kind of wondering how long it takes.

Mine started at 4 months and now is tapering off. DS turned 5 months yesterday. It got REALLY bad. I expected to wake up bald. hair nets were requested when I cook.

Mine started at 3 months post-partum and LO is 6 months on the 15th and I am just starting to notice is slowing down. I was losing handfuls in the shower....pretty icky. Now I have little new growth hairs all along my hairline. Looks kinda funny.

I'm glad someone posted about this. I was starting to think I was going to wake up bald as well. Whew!

Me too! It started about 3 months and is starting to now slow down (dd will be 5 mo. next week). Thank goodness I had thick hair! I was finding it everywhere and my brush was filled and I clogged our drains- oops!

Oh my gosh, hair loss!!!

Yes, mine got very thin (seeing scalp) and the shed didn't taper until about 9 months. Now I have about 2 inches of baby growth all over my head! I promise that it will come back in some form!!!

Oh good. It's been going on full force for about a month now (since DS was 3 months) and I swear I clean the brush out AT LEAST every other day. Every time I shower I stand at the sink and comb out my hair and pull the hair out of the comb and drop it into the sink until I'm done, then clean out the sink and toss it into the trash. The first time DH saw the pile he kind of freaked out and I told him it was normal, and then I started thinking...is it? Glad to know it is and it won't last too much longer, hopefully.

I had it when DS was about 3-6 months. I expected it to start earlier, so I was surprised! Now he is almost 8 months, and he is pulling my hair out FOR me! I have all of these little short pieces in front that are new hairs where he pulled out my nice long ones...I notice this on lots of other long haired moms too!

^ haha same here!

mine started at four months (at least, that's when i noticed) and is finally ending now at seven months.

there are less hair tumbleweeds rolling across the hardwood floors, and sometimes when i empty the dryer lint trap, there's actually more lint than hair in it! yay!

i have also stopped sporting schoolgirl braids, which has been my method of dealing with it.

Same here! I'm glad it's growing back finally, though! Mine is now tapering at 8 months PP - phew!

Mine's almost 7 months old and it's just starting to taper off now. I feel like I have no hair left

I was just coming to post on this! Mine just started falling out by the handful. Everytime I turn around one of my hairs is in a diaper or in LO's mouth! ICK! Is this nature's way of making us feel unattractive so we don't have another baby so soon?

I thought it would have happened already and that I was in the clear. I am almost 3 m pp, so I guess it is probably right around the corner.

Maybe!

I took a shower in my mom's shower the other day and I thought I was so careful to clean out all the hair. She was *shocked* at how much hair she found.

This happened to me twice now! Both times, from 3 months until 6 months. Then, it just stopped.

Mine didn't stop until around 1 year pp. It didn't start until 3-4m though.

*by tapering off, I meant I only have to empty the hairbrush once per brushing, compared to the 2 times I was emptying before.

We had to call a plumber last month for a clogged sewage line. My husband kept insisting they were going to dig out a basketball sized wad of my hair.

I am waiting just a bit longer and then I'm going to treat myself to a new hairdo. It's been in a perma-bun ever since DS was born.

My hair isn't falling out, but the roots are coming in super dark which makes my naturally highlighted light brown, copper, blonde and chameleon-like hair look like I dyed it. Hopefully it will revert back soon.

All- My hair started jumping the ship that is my head at a frantic pace sometime around three months and didn't stop until around 11 months or one year, like Peony's. It is just now starting to look less horrible.

I"ve been losing mine too. I just had to ask though, I forget why this happens???
