2 layers PUL?

Hi

I just made my 1st prefold cover and I used 1mil. I am not quite happy with how it turned out and I guess I really wanted 2mil, but I did not know when I ordered.

I was thinking about putting 2 layers of 1mil PUL together.
1. Is this advisable? Reasons why not to do this?
2. Put the laminated sides together? or do fabric outer Pul and another one the same way?

Thanks

I use FOE for my fitteds and prefer not to have two layers of this pressing up against my little angels chubby thighs so I make my covers using lastin. To do this, I take two layers of of one mil PUL and sew them together with the lastin then turn them. I topstitched my first one and it works great, but I don't feel like the topstitching was really necessary. FWIW, the cover I did like this is dh's fav (of course, it's also pink camo so he may just be partial to that...). On the other hand, I have had absolutely no issues with the covers I made just using one mil PUL. My baby is only six weeks old, but I've had no leaks or anything thus far. I just made my first cover out of the 2 mil PUL and kinda feel like I'm putting the old vinyl pants on her. It doesn't seem as comfy, airy as the one mil.

I bind 2 layers of 1 mm together (shiny sides in) with soft 1 inch FOE....works great!

What didn't you like about the 1 mil? I use 1 mil all the time and love the way it drapes and moves - not nearly as stiff as 2 mil.

I'm curious what you didn't like as well. I use single layer covers and two layer covers. When I embroider the covers I use two layers and I put the shiny sides together. I bind them with FOE too.

If you put the two shiny sides in and then iron it on high heat, it will fuse the pieces of PUL together to make it thicker, like you're wanting.

The only reason not to do this is simply a cost issue. Unless you're getting your PUL on super-discount, it's cheaper to just buy sandwich PUL if you know from the beginning that you are going to be using two layers.

I was going to make a PUL FOE cover with gussets too. The PUL I have is 1 mm.
It seems like with just one layer it would be a little fragile, but it's a cute color and I don't want to cover it. Should I just try reinforcing parts? Like where the gussets are sewn on and the aplix is sewn on?
Thanks!
