when i was in labor with my first i ate a whole lot but they never gave me an anema and honestly i ended up going to the bathroom on myself while pushing and i didnt like that very much i know it can happen but still.

now with this labor i wanna tell them i want an anema. do you think you can tell them to give one to you??

I think if you ask for an enema, they will give you one.

If my body doesn't naturally clear itself out before pushing starts, then I'll be getting one for certain.

It's highly likely that if you ask for one they'd give you one I imagine.

As for going to the bathroom on yourself, rather than "it can happen", which makes it sound like it's a bit of a rarity, you'll find that it's way more common than you think... and many people don't even realise it at the time. In fact, it means you're pushing correctly same muscle groups.

I know I pooped in the birthing pool a bit, but at that time I was beyond caring about that too. It's not the nicest thing to contemplate, but I figure it's part and parcel of the process, and birth can be messy Plus the people attending your birth have seen it all before too.

yea, like i said, it happened while i was giving birth to my first daughter, but i don't want it to happen again. plus, i have a stomach problem and i'd be afraid i'd pass gas or do more lol.

i'ma ask for an anema!

Don't worry about it happening again. It happens to just about everyone. I was horrified too, but the doc did not care what so ever. He just shrugged his shoulders and said "it happens". If you stress too much about this, it can lead to you pushing wrong and having a harder time during delivery. Trust me, the docs and nurses have seen a lot worse (and smelled a lot worse) then some laboring moms poo (or gas).

I don't know much about this but my midwife said during early labor we could do a glycerin suppository laxative ourselves which would then ease our minds about being worried about this happening - and then we wouldn't be preoccupied thinking about it during pushing and if it happens anyway it's not at all a biggie... unless we're still in the water ('cause of germs says my midwife)... I pooped in the birth tub when ds was born. I wasn't embarrassed about it (I knew it might happen and that the mws had seen it all before) but I remember it being excruciatingly painful (I guess 'cause I didn't have much room down there, with ds's head about to be born).

I don't know if I'd be willing to do the enema, though. I'm just hoping to get lucky this time.
