back from my NT scan - updated with results!

and everything went just absolutely amazing and perfect.

baby is growing like a weed - s/he actually measured about a week ahead and is over two inches long now.

The NT measurement was really good as well - over 2.18mm can indicate down's and Poppy's was 1.50 mm so that's great. Of course, we still have to wait for the bloodwork to come back, but we're really not concerned about it.

Poppy was moving all over the freaking place - it was insane. The tech actually had a hard time getting some of her measurements because the little stinker wouldn't stay still. She kept putting her hand up to her head and so the tech couldn't get a good shot of her nose. The whole time, Poppy wouldn't be still - it was just awesome.

I'm still going with thinking she's a girl, although I had a dream last night Poppy was a boy. My next OB appointment is March 18th and if we get another ultrasound then (which we should) we stand a pretty good chance at finding out the gender.

Oh, we also got to hear the heartbeat for the first time - it was amazing. It's just unreal to think there's this tiny little baby growing inside me with a heartbeat and everything!

I'm so happy she's doing well! When you said 'she' I thought you had found out already!

And wow! The brain is so big compared to the rest of the head! I thought those 2 dark areas were the eyes!

Heh, yeah the face shot of my baby kinda looks like that too. My sister said it looked like an alien.

We got our blood work results back today - and they were excellent!

Based on family history and age, our risk of Down's was 1:648. Now, it's 1 in over 10,000.

Based on family history and age, our risk of Trisomies 13&18 were 1:1211. Now, it's 1:6473.

So yay!

Josh's Girl-

Could you tell me more about the tests you had done? What is an NT scan? How were they able to adjust your odds like that?

Sorry if I'm really ignorant.... I've been unmotivated to dig into a ton of books and research. I'm trying not to overwhelm myself.

P.S. CONGRATULATIONS, BTW!!!!!!

Belia - here's a good quick version of it

It works in conjunction with blood work - most of the time now it's called an ultra-screen.

It analyzes three different things your blood and abnormal results can indicate different genetic defects.

It doesn't tell you if the baby does have it or not, it's just a risk analysis. The only thing that can definitely tell is an amnio.
