Using wool roving to make pillows

I would like to make bed pillows and floor pillows using these two bags of wool roving I have.

How do I get the roving to stay together and, well, pillow shaped?

I am having a hard time getting going on this project - anyone have any thoughts or inspiration for me?

I'm not understanding what you want to do. You want to sew a shell and stuff it with wool? Or you want to make a free-standing, no cover required, wool pillow?

ive been thinking about making some wool floor pillows as well( i like the floor more than the couch) and woudl be interested in knowing as well!

If you just want something to use as stuffing loose wool would work better than roving, and it seems like a waste to use wool that is spinning quality and has been carded into roving to stuff pillows.

Yup, loose wool would be more economical than roving, unless you're trying to rid yourself of the stuff. That said, I'm thinking that loose wool would eventually develop uneven areas so that you'd have a lumpy pillow.

If I were to make a pillow, I think I'd use wool batting and just roll it into a pillow shape. Stuff it in a tightly woven cotton pillowcase and sew shut.

OR... use roving/loose wool and wrap that with wool batting so that the eventual lumps aren't so obvious.

Unless you stuff wool very densely, it clumps over time.

And yup, you'd want loose wool or wool batting, not roving.

maybe you could lightly needle felt it with multiple needle tool so it would stay together nicely?
