My sister has a friend in Allersberg, Germany. She is struggling with breastfeeding her three day old son. She asked her doctor for a referral to a Lactation Consultant and he told her that he won't refer her because formula is available and if bf'ing hurts then stop and use what the economy has for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone know of some help she could get in her area? My sister can only do so much over MSN!

I was sorry to see that you did not get any responses. I can only say that even if your sister's friend does need to use some formula for her wee baby, she should keep trying to breastfeed. Three days old is too young to quit trying, she should avoid dehydration, of course, but keep plugging away because if she can get over the hump, they could have a very successful nursing relationship.

where is Allersberg? I am in Southwest Germany and would be glad to help if I can.
Please tell me this wasn't a military doctor!!!!

can you direct her to this forum?
we could all help to support her through this awful time.....its so hard when they're that little and you have no help.
WE could be her lactation consultants and support!

Positive update from my sister about her friend!!

Quote:
<Friend's name> emailed me yesterday to say that she contacted the lady in her town and they did a consultation over the phone.. she isn't bleeding anymore and he is starting to open his mouth more... she is going to have the lady come over this week sometime!

My sister is passing along the message to her friend that she can report this doctor to the physicians association.
