Day care charging MORE for breastfeeding!

A friend just linked me this blog. The day care wants to charge $50 more a week because breast milk is a hazardous bodily fluid and takes more care while preparing.

This is completely ridiculous!

Edit: I just looked- this was in Feb. 2007. Not 2008 like I thought. Sorry if this has been posted.

What on earth...:

I actually visited CityKids day care and when the director told me about the extra fee ($10/day for special biohazard storage in the director's office) I thought "what a crazy f***ed up idea and I am wasting my time by sitting here". I hope that they have since changed their policy but who knows...

SWEEET!!!!!!!!! DD 2 1/2 doesnt drink cows milk (and only only nurses at home) so that must mean that we can get a discount - the teachers dont have to handle the biohazard cows milk for her.

:: is all I have to say about that!

What the hell are these people thinking? Never mind, I don't want to know.

how ignorant/stupid/insulting/ridiculous.

I would tell everyone I know that those people aren't QUALIFIED to handle taking care of babies. I would also complain to whoever certifies them.

that makes so much sense...it is so hard to warm up a bottle of expressed breast milk than to measure out powder and water and mix it together.

Yeah I recall this story from last year but I don't recall what ended up happening... Anyone here remember?

OT, Is this the same CityKids with the completely bizarre curriculum? Like they cover WW I and the Cold War with preschoolers?

Then I guess they'd better up their charges for changing diapers too. Body fluids, you know.

Show them this from the CDC about safe breast milk handling:
http://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding/rec...breastmilk.htm

The CDC does NOT consider breast milk to be a dangerous bodily fluid, and no special handling is required.
