I finally got up the nerve to really talk to DH last night about me quitting my job and staying home with the kids, and he AGREED with me. He said he thinks we're fine in the house we're in for another couple of years and that it's more important for me to be at home with our kids. (THANK YOU. Finally. I've been waiting for this for *months*.) He's supposed to be getting a pretty big bonus in a couple of weeks, so if everything goes as planned with that, I should be able to give my notice around March 25.

I'm so excited! It has really been hurting my heart to not be with my babies during the day (I've been WOH full-time), so this is such a relief for me. I do want to make sure we'll be able to make ends meet, though. I figured this morning that we'll have a minimum of $2,025 left over after bills. (DH's income varies a LOT, so some months it would be more like $2,800 after bills.) We will be trying to save at least $500/month toward a down payment on a future house, so really only $1,525 after putting that money in savings. We're a family of 5 and live in a really low cost-of-living area. This will be for about 6 months, until I finish my transcription course and start working part-time doing that from home, which I estimate will bring in $800-1000/month.

Is this doable?

Congratulations. Living on $1500/ month after paying bills sounds very doable to me. I'd suggest setting up a budget that you think you can live with, and tweak it as you go along.
