Need help adjusting recycled soaker pattern

OK, I've been trying my hand at making recycled soakers and am getting discouraged. After my second attempt, I realized that it's the pattern that's the problem. I've been using this one: http://www.borntolove.com/frugal-column2.html. What I end up with is a soaker with the waist and butt the same size, but I need more room in the bum area for diaper bulk. (This is intended for nighttime use.) Is there any way to adjust the pattern easily to make this work?

Maybe I need to try this pattern? http://katrinassqs.blogspot.com/ If so, how on earth do I print out a copy? Would it work well with a bulky nighttime dipe?

Please help! My sewing skills are extremely basic, and I really want to make this work! I have a few more sweaters to try before I give up.

Stacey, I'm attempting my first recycled soaker tomorrow and I think I'm going to use the pattern from the 2nd link you posted. To print out the pattern, you just scroll to (near) the bottom of her little blog and then there are two links, one says "soaker pattern" and one says "new soaker pattern" or something like that. If you click on one (I did "new") it should open up in pdf format and you can print from there. I'm also not a very experienced sewer so I'll let you know how it goes after tomorrow.

Did it yesterday (with a little help from my mom) and it came out great! I really like the Katrina SQS pattern, it was very easy to follow, and I like that it had different pattern sizes. I was using a thinner sweater, so I included the "wetzone doubler" and used contrasting thread (dark green on a burnt orange sweater) and it looks really cute.

Here's her pattern so that you can print it.http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/...ina%27s+soaker Just click on the links in the post and it will give you the pattern to print. I use the improved pattern and it works well and is easy to make. Hope you have fun making them!
