Hello Mamas!!
Checking in to post that my babe has arrived.
I was at 4cm when my Midwife came to check me at 9:30am, then hit active labor around noon. She walked through the door at 3:13pm in time to hear my DH yell out "Her water just broke!!" I was at 9 1/2 when she checked me then and with the next contraction I focused on opening up and told my body what to do and it complied. I was ready to start pushing after that.
He was born at 3:53pm. Lots of hair and nursing like a pro!!
I'll post the whole story when I'm done writing it.

Here is the story of Atticus Lee's birth. It was one of the most powerful and moving experiences of my life, and I am so grateful for my husband, my son, my midwives, and my friends who helped to facilitate this life changing experience.
I had contractions about 10 minutes apart all afternoon on Tuesday, then they got to be about 6 or 7 minutes apart and I called my Midwife Jennifer. She said to take some Calcium Magnesium, have 1/2 a glass of wine, a hot shower, and go to bed. I followed her instructions, even though I hate wine.. She said that I needed to rest if this wasn't it, but that if it was it wouldn't prevent my labor from progressing. The next morning I woke at 6am with the rushes about 10 minutes apart again. I just went about my morning, ate a little breakfast, watched The Business of Being Born (again!), snuggled with Elias, and hung out.
My other Midwife Alisa came by to check me at 9:30ish and I was at 4cm and 80% effaced. I was surprised to hear that since it was so easy so far! Atticus was really far down. Alisa predicted that he would be 6lbs, probably 12 or 14 ounces.. So, I continued to go about my day. Carlo and Elias took a nap while I labored in the bedroom. I didn't want anyone around, looking at me, touching me, or talking to me. I would tell my body to open, I would talk to the baby and assure him that everything was okay, I would envision an opening rose, and I would just work through each one as it came.
When the contractions had me feeling the urge to bear down at the end I called Jennifer to let her know what was up. She told me that it was because my water hadn't broken yet and just to try my best not to push, but that the moment I wanted her here that she would drop what she was doing with her prenatal appointments and be here. I was feeling really good so I told her to go ahead and finish up with them and to give me a call when she was done. Then I sent Carlo and Elias to the store. I figured that I still had hours of labor left. My friend Kari and her daughter Paisley came by with some Pad Thai for me and to help watch Elias until my Mom got off work.
As I sat and had a few bites of food between rushes I started tingling all over. My body started to go numb. I knew it was transition and I called my midwife Jennifer. She was on her way then. I called Carlo a few times to tell him to come home but he didn't answer. I was really taken aback that it was all happening so fast! It really didn't feel like the nightmare that so many people make it out to be.
I asked Kari to run me a bath and I got in. The next two rushes were very intense and I couldn't help but to bear down. After the second one my water broke. That's the moment that Jennifer walked through the door (3:13pm).. She checked me and I was at 9 1/2cm and helped that last little lip of cervix over Atticus's head.
I got back in the water once I felt the "Ring of Fire" and that took the feeling away. After a couple of good pushes Jennifer told me that I'd have to change positions. I couldn't get into a good pushing position in the bath so I got on the bed. Jennifer suggested getting on all fours, so I did, and wow! I could feel everything opening up. I pushed with all my might, and after what seems like only moments, little Atticus was born! My Mom got there a few minutes after he was born. Alisa arrived shortly after that.
We got to snuggle immediately, he nursed right away, and it's been heaven ever since. He's so sweet, and Elias is warming up to him so beautifully. They look almost exactly alike.
