Just thought I'd share this article I wrote on birth rape for a feminist website. It was picked up by True Birth.com as well. http://www.truebirth.com/2008/03/07/...ape-in-the-uk/

Wow, I really don't have the emotional energy to say all I'd like to but that was an amazing article, well done! I can relate to the last paragraph especailly...I am not allowed a birth attendant b/c I choose to birth home. (Having too many sections in their opinion.) So I have no choice but face another or stay home all alone not knowing what's happening. I choose the later & hope for the best, but it breaks my heart. A skilled birth attendant is a fundamental RIGHT.

Excellent! I only wish more feminists would put energy into this than they currently do.

That is an amazing article. Thank you so much for writing it.

Thank you for writing such an informative, thoughtful article! Birth rape is something that more feminists should be aware of, and it's only going to gain attention as more of us speak up about it.

I didn't realize it was an MDC mama that wrote it. I should have known.

Thanks everyone! I'm pleased that you liked it. I was hoping that I did the topic justice. Having not actually suffered a birth rape myself, I wanted to portray it sensitively but at the same time make people feel uncomfortable about what goes on in hospitals, IYKWIM. Thanks again for your support!

I love the line "no means no --even in the delivery room." can I make that a bumper sticker?

That was an amazing article.
Thank you.

I loved your article. That is how I felt with my only hospital birth. I just didn't have the words to express it.

What an absolutely fantastic article! Well done! I would like to see it reprinted in every parenting magazine in the English-speaking world.

I'd love to see your excellent article included in the Birth Trauma support thread stickied at the top of the forum. Would you like to include it??

Absolutely! If it can help someone come to terms with their birth trauma, by all means, please post it.

ETA: oh, or did you mean I should post it myself? Wasn't sure if a mod should do it or if I could do it myself

Either way. That particular thread is open to member posts. You're welcome to post to it or I can do it if you'd prefer

Just thought I'd update because there's been a recent development with my story. A rather well-known doctor blogger in the UK yesterday wrote an attack on my birth rape article, and one written by another woman about medical rape. I won't link to it here because it is vile but the feminist website I originally wrote it for has more on what he said and how feminists and birth advocates are responding. I wrote a rebuttal here.

I hope this guy isn't allowed anywhere near birthing women.
