My article on birth rape published - Page 2

it's very well written.

there's one aspect about it that gave me pause, which was how UC was mentioned--as if it's not a good option for women to actively choose regardless of trauma.

but, i don't think that was the intent, and it was one line, so no problem.

Disgusting. I've seen his writings before, and the guy just does not get it. And he evidently doesn't want to get it. Unbelievable.

Zoebird, I agree that that line didn't come across the way I intended it to. I wanted to go into how UC is a valid option for many women but didn't want to go off onto a tangent and didn't restructure the way I worded it to reflect that. I realised this after it was published and wish I could go back and rewrite that part. Apologies if any UCers were offended, that was not my intention at all.

Oh, man. Good followup article. That guy is just unbelievable! Well, I mean, it's believable, but horrid, YK? It makes me want to go take a shower or something.

Heh. Or go get some coffee at a coffee shop...

**warning...my experience mentioned...

Wow. Thank you for writing that. I experienced many of those unpleasant and forceful situations with the birth of my DS. The cervix being forced to finish opening, a roving doctor with his fist crammed into me trying to turn my DS' head (which is now shaped like a lima bean--no kidding)...Thank goddess for my DH and birth advocate! I heard him say, "Stop," "she said stop!" and "don't!" several times during my labor, when I had no energy or breath to do so. He just saw it on my face that I needed his voice. I nearly had a catheter forced into my urethra after 6-something hours of unsuccessful pushing. I screamed. My dad remembers it (he was right outside the door)...it was bad.

That article expresses what I could not. Thank you.

Wow, I just read the whole thing. I was thinking that the doctor was some random lunatic, but then I see on his site that is blog is recommended by a whole list of people including the British Medical Association. That makes it so much worse.

Oh, and I almost forgot, OP, your article is very good. I too was wondering about the UC comment, but I see how you did not mean it like that. I find that issues surrounding birth are not always at the forefront of feminist activism and ideas and it is always nice when someone addresses it from a feminist perspective.

Indeed it was an awesome article, and I'm glad it's out there.
