title asks it all....
I've never knit with it before. it seems sturdier than malabrigo and almost like a lighter weight manos. Both of which pill when you bat an eyelash.

I think purewool pills a lot. But for a hat it should be fine. I wouldn't use it on toddler longies, but I do use it for newborn items Its very soft!

I've used purewool for quite a few hats for kiddos. They work great, but keep in mind that they'll stretch a lot. I had one that DD wore last winter, when she was about 3 months, and now she's wearing it for a second winter, at 18 months now!

Which ply do you have?
i think the 1 ply pills a ton but I've made my kids hats with the 3 ply and it has worked well. I used double stranded to make a Toasty Topper for my son and he has worn it almost daily without any pilling at all! My daughter's hat has taken on a fuzzy sheen and has felted a bit on the part that ties under her neck, but it still looks great and she loves how soft it is!
