My light system came today in a very intimidating large box.

Another friend lost her job today and when she called, UPS was delivering the box. She asked me if I'd have enough veggies to give her if money got really tight this summer. I almost burst into tears and now I wants to plant 4 more raised beds and just pass out free food to people.

And my eggplanst went into pots this weekend. Nothing has happened yet as far as I know. I'm so excited to see something!

I'm going to try growing kiwanos this summer too and I think I'll start them this week to give them some extra time. As soon as it gets into the 40s, I'll be taking my trays outside if the seedlings are big enough and bringing them in at night.

How about everyone else? How is it going?

Nothing too exciting here.

I've gotten 3 out of 5 of my seed orders. If I'm at Fred Meyer or whatever for some reason, I'll trek out to the garden center to see if they have any compost or peat moss that's not covered in snow so I'm ready for when it is time to start my seeds...

About 1/4 of my onion seeds have sprouted, plus a few herbs. Should I take the lid off of the tray or leave it on until they are taller?

I just came back from a trip and my echinacea looked about almost dead. I can't believe DH didn't notice it all sad and wilted in the kitchen window. I think it needs to be transplanted into a bigger pot because it's been needing more water than ever lately. That is, if it comes back to life. :

Not much else exciting goin on here. Just enjoying the winter by getting out on skis and snowboards as much as possible...

That might depend upon the temperature of your home, Alisaterry. Do you use a heating mat too?
No heating mat, I'm afraid.
I don't use mats either. So I guess we'll see what happens.
I got my growlight/shelves assembled yesterday and the eggplanst are contentedly under the lights. Next, I'm going to start the kiwanos.

Sacredmama, did the echinacea come back??

Yes!! : We lost a few leaves, but it's already got a new one coming out! Thanks for asking!

I'm trying really hard to not get excited about growing season just yet. Last year I got excited early and then the wait was torture. I'm gonna take the rest of the month of Feb to finish my winter rest. Not really sure if the torture of waiting to plant outside in zone 3 will ever subside, though.

I hate waiting to plant. By this time every year I am raring to go! I don't have any grow lights so I don't start anything indoors either. A lack which I must remedy.

I want to grow mustard this year. Anyone done that?

Zone 5 here too!

Should we have a new 2009 thread with a link to this one?

I am still waiting for the rest of my seeds to some (Baker Creek).

I did get a new composter that hubby is putting together.

And this year I am planting at least half of my front yard too!
