Even though her books are all so similar, I love them. I think she's really good.

I LOVED 19 minutes, and couldn't put it down. I figured out the twist early, but still enjoyed it.

The Pact is still my favorite though. Of her books, that is.

Happy reading!

I've read Vanishing Acts and just finished My Sister's Keeper. I love them. I'm reading Change of Heart now.

I love Jodi Picoult! My favorites are My Sister's Keeper and Plain Truth. I just couldn't get through The Pact. It's the only one I haven't liked.

Yes, I love her! I've read The Pact, and My Sister's Keeper, and am currently reading Plain Truth.

Jodi Picoult is my vacation reading.
I like her but was glad to hear someone else say her books are all similar.
I made the mistake of reading 19 minutes and then the Pact right after. I found a lot of similarities and it kinda bugged me.
But saying that her books are consistently pleasing.
I have read
The Tenth Circle- which was my least favorite
Vanishing Act
My Sisters Keeper- still my favorite
Plain Truth- I really enjoyed this one
The Pact
19 Minutes

I was so disgusted by the complete cop-out of an ending in Her Sister's Keeper that I can't bring myself to read any of her other books. I really wanted to like her, but that ending was just soooooooo predictable, and so weak.

I hated the ending to that book too. At the urging of some friends, I continued reading other books, and all the endings have been better.

Honestly, I just *cannot* figure out how I feel about Jodi Picoult.

I find her writing extremely formulaic/predictable. Like how the plots fit together, to me, is how plots are put together by 12 year olds.

But I keep reading them...

Seriously, this is something I just cannot figure out. I don't think she is a particularily talented author, but her books are certainly compelling. I have "Change of Heart" from the library right now (haven't started it yet, I have like a stack of 10 books to read) and am sure I will "enjoy" it.

I love how you put "enjoy" in quotes.

I used to read Danielle Steele in high school. It wasn't particularly good, but I kept reading them. It's like watching TV but you are reading so it feels better and you can say you read a book.

I think that is why I only read her books while on vacation. I want something easy, that does not take too much thought and I can put down and pick up really easily.

I LOVE her so much, despite the formulaic plots because it is obvious how much research she puts into her writing. I learn SO much about things I really would never know about when I read her stuff. She doesn't just read some junk on the internet and then half-ass the rest. She really immerses herself in it. I looove to learn, and I love even more to learn through fiction. So that's why I can't ever resist picking up her latest.

I seriously can't figure it out.

I read Change of Heart last night. Didn't start til late so I was up til after 3am finishing this book.

By page 50 ( of a 447 page book btw) I was predicting exactly what would happen to each character, what the "twist" would be and how it would wrap up.

To proove I wasn't making it up, I actually LISTED my predictions while I was on page 63.

Yup, 100% right.

But I know I will continue reading them all. Her books are actually very well written, in some ways it is even more impressive because it is so obvious how they will turn out that they still remain so compelling.

She is *almost* my other Jeffery Archer, lol.

I read "The Pact", "The Tenth Circle" and "My Sister's Keeper". I also read the one with the priest molester. What is the name of that?
What I find interesting, is that in each book, there are some extremely annoying main female characters. I was extremely irritated by the mother in "My Sister's Keeper" and the main character in the "priest" book, the one who shot the priest was awful.
In general I do enjoy her books.

I do agree that her plots are formulaic. But I think that she has a way with words that is almost magical. I find myself reading just to enjoy her phrasing, and just going along for the ride of the plot, without having to think too much about it.
