Almost 38 weeks here, and totally done with this. Yesterday some moron said to me, "Hey, you kinda look like the Pillsbury dough girl!"

Then, he proceeded to poke my belly button with a pen and say, "hoo hoo!"

I do *not* look like the pillsbury dough girl!

tolovemercy: You have my sympathies... DH and I were watching Star Trek last night, and he compared my tummy to a class-M planet.

If only laughter was a form of natural labor induction

No real news here. I'm contracting about every seven minutes at the moment, have been since 9:30ish, but they're not real contractions. I'm going to head off to sleep soon, and I expect they'll taper off.

Being overdue sucks. : It'll especially suck when I have to drive two hours to my class tomorrow night and face all of my classmates, who will all want to make a comment on how I'm "ready to pop" or something equally obnoxious.

I made a discovery today which may make the next weeks somewhat more comfy, and I can't believe I didn't think of it before: my husband's shirts fit me beautifully! Which is odd, because I feel huge and he is by no means a large man. But I got caught in the rain today and had literally nothing to wear, so I snuggled into one of his long-sleeved shirts, and then changed into a short-sleeved one later when I got too hot--and they were bliss! Plus it felt SO nice to see myself in clothes I hadn't been wearing, alternately, for two months straight. So on the days when I can mooch at home (which is most of 'em), I think I'll be cross-dressing from now on!

I started making a tiny quilt for le bebe today. I am very proud of myself--I've done a patch and a half, and the result (although perhaps not as geometrically sharp as could be desired in an ideal, Platonic world) looks creditably like the pattern. I was planning to do two patches by three, but it's a little smaller than I thought so I might go to three by four; we'll see. It'll either go in the bassinette, or cover the very ugly bouncinette in place of the cheesy-looking pink and blue blanket which is currently covering it. Anyway it gives me something to do while waiting for the baby (as opposed to, say, the two dozen other things I should be doing).

GathererGirl: 'Ready to pop' is one of the most obnoxious pregnancy comments ever. I'm just planning to avoid society entirely until after the baby arrives--and if that should be four weeks from now, so be it!

Sigh. I probably didn't have bloody show, after all! I was talking to my doula and she reminded me that 2 days before I had a cervical check and small sweep. Darn it! It was probably dried blood from that. I wasn't really impatient before and now I am! WAHHHH!

I am NOT comfortable. She has to have dropped more. Sitting is getting horribly uncomfortable.

quick, quick reply. It never seems like i can get to the computer anymore. Savitri is a little chunkette now - 7 lbs, 12 oz, nursing like a barracuda.

Big boo is still having a rough time with brotherhood, but getting a little less agressive.

Sorry for the difficult recovery, mammainPA.

Congrats to all new mammas and babies, and smooth delivery asap to all those waiting...

38 weeks here.

The groin pain from pubic symphysis dysfunction has become fairly manageable, thank goodness. I'm not pain-free, but rarely get any pain that makes me actually take pause.

Unfortunately, my DD came down with pinkeye just a day after all the pain started. Thankfully, it looks cleared up as of yesterday, but DS now has it. I feel awful, how adamantly I hysterically telling my kids, "DON'T TOUCH ME!!" after they've just rubbed their eyes or had their fingers in their mouths. The last thing I want is to get pinkeye and then go into labor, you know?

But DS also started having some diarrhea a couple days ago (which could be part of the same virus that gave them pinkeye, but DD never seems to be affected by intestinal stuff). Lucky me woke up at 3:30am, the night before last, with crampy, hot intestines. I spent about 20 minutes on the toilet, silently dialoguing with myself, comparing what I remember labor feeling like to what I was feeling then. I think I've heard too many stories lately of women birthing on toilets, and half hour labors, and stuff like that! I was sure I wasn't anywhere near labor, but what if I was wrong?? Not a fun mind game to be playing with yourself at 3:30am, when you already haven't slept well.

DH stayed home from work yesterday because he had been dealing with a sore throat and really bad voice/cough all weekend. I'm surrounded by sickies. This morning it looks like my lymph nodes are a bit swollen. Great.

All I want is for this baby to come when everyone in this house is actually healthy. And me not getting all this crap would be lovely, too. Why on earth did we manage to go all winter without being sick, and suddenly, March rolls around and it's one thing after another??

In the meantime, I've made several plans for activities next week. Hoping baby doesn't show up too early and make me cancel all the fun stuff! The kids and I are getting seriously sick of avoiding people because of all the illnesses.

Leiahs: Arrgh, I'm sorry to hear that everyone's poorly! What a pain.

I've now completed two-and-a-bit patches of the baby's quilt. I think cutting out quilt patches is going to become a nervous pre-labour habit, like biting my fingernails. Only more productive, so why not?

Am I the only one who wakes up at night every time the baby kicks with the immediate thought 'Ooh, maybe I'm in labour!'? I'm getting sick of my mind immediately jumping to that thought with very little provocation! I found myself early this morning hoping my waters would break, and then realising that at no other time in my life would I actually be wishing to soak my newly-changed sheets in the middle of a cold night, ushering in hours of pain. Pregnancy does weird things to the brain!

My appointment this week showed no changes. Kind of depressing, but I am just 38 weeks, so I shouldn't be complaining yet. I got my list of things to do complete, and now I have nothing to do but relax and I can't. I feel like I should be doing something all the time and I can't just sit and relax. I can't sleep at night either. I just lie there wide awake. I am growing impatient to see my little boy.

Leiahs, I'm sorry you all are getting sick! DS is coming down with pink eye, too... we'll see if it actually takes hold or if he'll be able to fight it off (fingers crossed). I'm thinking the warmer weather is what's getting us over here. And we all have allergies and things are starting to bloom so we're all a bit itchy and sniffly (read: I'm in utter denial that we could be starting another round of colds!).

I had an adjustment today for the first time this pregnancy and she did a lot of body work (massage type stuff) on my back. I am SO sore! I wish my mw would have recommended this chiro ages ago so I could have maybe really worked these knots out! Owie!

Hmph.

I had a friend over today who's pregnant, and we psyched ourselves up talking everything baby-related (which was great fun), so later on when I wanted a nap I felt like reading a book which involved birth or babies somehow. Unfortunately the only one I could find which remotely answered this description was Sons and Lovers. Now I feel kinda depressed.

I'm at 39 weeks right now and feel like a lot of things are changing but I don't know if that means the baby is coming soon or not (and by soon I mean within the next week!) I tried to see if I could squeeze some colostrum out of my breast this morning (I wasn't able to last week) and I got a teeny tiny drop! So, at least I know something is in there
I am debating back and forth when I'm going to take my maternity leave. I had originally wanted to stay until the baby was born and now I'm on a 30 hour work week but I feel so crappy all the time I'm thinking I might start it on the 24th if the baby's not here yet. I'm just worried it will decide to come really late and I'll be sitting around for 2 weeks twiddling my thumbs.

NAK here

Sorry for everyone experiencing after pains. Mine were so bad in the hospital and every nurse said they get worse with each child. It didn't help that eveyone who checked my incision pushed on my tummy! But seriously, the pain of my uterus contracting back down was sooooo much worse than the incision site. Way worse. Like, it is what I would complain of when answering the "1-10,how is your pain" question.

Now I am swollen as all get out and trying to get this water weight from the IV out of my body... it's everywhere. So bad I don't/can't leave the house. I DO look like a big marshmallow

Well, FIL brought me some movies him and MIL brought with them to watch while with us. One he brought me to watch during a stay at night alone in the hospital was Phantom of the Opera. Um, yeah...don't really feel like watching that one by myself Bring on the lighthearted comedies!
