Vinegar in the Spot Bot/Steam Cleaner?

I have a little dog who can't tell the difference between inside and outside. As a result, we have a very spotty carpet in our finished basement, where her doggy door is.

Anyone know if a vinegar solution would hurt our carpet machines? We have a Spot Bot and a Bissell steam cleaner. Would it work as well as the shampoo that's made for those machines?

I called Bissell awhile back and asked them if they could recommend a cleaner that isn't made specifically for their machines (the specific solutions were getting hard to find in our area), and they said they couldn't, because other solutions could destroy the mechanisms. I think that was a crock though, and they just wanted me to buy their products and not another product.

So, any advice?

I don't have either machine you do. However, I have a Scooba and I use vinegar in it. Clorox makes the solution for the Scooba. In the first Scooba, they (company) said you could only use the Clorox solution made specifically for the Scooba. In the one I have, though, the measuring cup that comes with it has a mark for the Clorox solution and a mark for white vinegar.

If nothing else, I'd try it with just plain hot water.
