Welcoming our little girl!!!

Our new little love, Zelda, arrived earlier than expected Friday morning, wonderfully healthy at 7#10oz and 20 inches long.

We were ready to leave int he morning for our cesarean birth, as she hadn't yet flipped on her own, when I awoke to the bubbly feeling of my water breaking around 2:30 am! So, she did choose her birthday after all, and she was certainly ready! About 40 minutes later we arrived in L&D and I was nearly 8 cm, much to everyone's amazement ( I did read Hypnobirthing, and the breathing techniques worked wonderfully - they weren't really rushing until I mentioned feeling the need to use the bathroom. . .). Unfortuately they weren't able to get the spinal in (disc spaces too small, ready to push the baby!), and they put me under general anesthesia, though briefly. - right before the surgery began, not yet an hour and a half after labor began I was fully dilated and ready to push - the doc said she was sorry she hadn't done more vaginal breech deliveries because it looked like I could do this easily!).

So, our "chosen one", Zelda, arrived quickly into daddy's arms in the early light of day Friday morning. She is amazing! She nurses well, and my milk is already here! I couldn't ask for anything more! I did talk them into letting me come home early, and we are settling in nicely.

This has been a long road, and despite my worries (she did choose her birthday, and she wasn't going to turn in labor!!!), we have a healthy baby girl who is such a blessing to us all!

Congrats on the birth of Zelda! So I take it the doc did the c-section? It's too bad they are so unexperienced with breech births.

Congrats! I'm so glad Zelda chose her own birthday! I've had so many friends say that helped them with their breech ceasareans!

Well, I had read the book during my pregnancy (never took the class, just read and practiced, in the hopes that she'd flip and I'd get the chance to labor! . . who knew!!!), and without even realizing it I was using the techniques just to cope with the pain of the first contractions I had. With our first daughter, labor went very quickly . . .and I was told that this wasn't likely to repeat itself as Z was breech.

Wrong!!!

Anyway, it was incredibly helpful!!!!!

Thanks for all of your well-wishes. We are doing beautifully! Zelda is a champion nurser, and my milk came in even sooner than the first time - despite the c/s and general anesthesia. Crazy, but I am thankful for it. And as far as the healing process goes, I feel fabulous! My belly hardly hurts at all, and ibuprofen seems to be all that I need to manage that. I have struggled a bit with a spinal headache (they tried 8 times to get one in, so I get the headache without the benefit of the actual spinal, but today it's not here yet.

Really, this has been so much better than I had anticipated! And it certainly helps to have our little girl cuddle! She is so warm and snuggly . . .and she smells sooooooooo good! i love that baby smell!

Jill- I can't believe Ayla isn't here yet! After all of your PTL . . . soon, little girl! We can't wait to meet you as well! And Katrina, you also!!!! C'mon little ones!

Welcome, Zelda!!

What a cool name! Happy recovery - so glad the c/s didn't give you much trouble, and the end of that tough journey was easier than expected.
